Physical Property- characteristics of a substance that can be observed without changing it. (ex. Color, shape, melting point, boiling point).
Appearance is the physical description of a substance
Behavior is how it acts (ex. Magnetism)

Physical change- a change in the substance’s size, shape, or state of matter
Distillation is a process for separating a mixture by using the physical property of melting point.

Chemical property is a characteristic of a substance indicating that it can change chemically (ex flammability)
Chemical change ALWAYS creates a new substance. Some chemical changes are indicated by temp
change, smell, rust, or bubble formation

Both a physical (big rocks splitting into smaller ones) and a chemical change ( calcium carbonate in limestone changes to calcium hydrogen carbonate sure to acid rain)

All substances present before a chemical change equals the mass of all substances after the change. Mass is not created nor destroyed.
