FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It has been a while since the healthcare mandate issue has been the focus of our attention. Nevertheless, we must continue to work for a resolution in favor of our beliefs about the sanctity of the marital act and of human life. Various lawsuits have been playing out in the court system — indeed, with some recent success, such as last Monday's Supreme Court decision — and we continue to pray for success, especially for those lawsuits involving conscientious objection on be-half of corporations. Recently James Dobson spoke elo-quently on the issue, especially as the mandate seeks to impose, at least in part, the funding of abortion-producing drugs (underline added): “I believe in the rule of law, and it has been my practice since I was in college to
respect and honor those in authority over
us. It is my desire to do so now. However,
this assault on the sanctity of human life takes me where I cannot go. I WILL NOT
pay the surcharge for abortion services.
The amount of the surcharge is irrelevant. To pay one cent for the killing of babies is
egregious to me, and I will do all I can to
correct a government that lies to me about its intentions and then tries to coerce my
acquiescence with extortion. It would be a
violation of my most deeply held convic-
tions to disobey what I consider to be the principles in Scripture. The Creator will
not hold us guiltless if we turn a deaf ear
to the cries of His innocent babies.”

BLOOD DRIVE Our third and final drive for 2014 is October 11. (Note correction from last week.) For single unit donors, the last date you can donate elsewhere and still be eligible to donate at our drive, is August 1. If you donate double red cells, then you cannot donate elsewhere because your date was June 7. If you have any comments, please contact Gene or Dennis at [email protected] or (419) 861-0161.
I like Dr. Dobson’s respect for the rule of law, which all of us should have. The authori-ty which law possesses makes it all the more urgent that no law should ever sanction the destruction of innocent human life or make us pay for that destruction. Law itself is governed by a higher law, the law of justice and reasona-bility. The contraceptive / abortifacient man-date fails to meet the standards of reason and should therefore be struck from the law. So, we must ask ourselves: have we done anything lately to bring about a greater justice? In Christ, Fr. Hertzfeld

I desire to unite Myself to human souls, Know, My daughter, that when I come to a human heart in Holy Communion, My hands are full of all kinds of graces which I want to give to the soul. But souls do not even pay any attention to Me; they
leave Me to Myself and busy themselves with other things...They treat Me as a dead object. (1385)
Now you shall consider My love in the Blessed Sacrament. Here, I am entirely yours, soul, body and divinity, as your Bridegroom. You know what love demands: one thing only,
reciprocity...(1770) --St Faustina, Divine Mercy in my Soul

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Responding to the call of Jesus, St. Joan of Arc Parish is a Catholic Community, guided by the Holy Spirit,
striving to do God’s will. We encourage spiritual growth and invite full, active and conscious participation
of all generations through prayer, stewardship and fellowship.
UPDATE ON THE SJA CAMPUS RENEWAL PROJECT During late May and early June, St. Joan of Arc parishioners were asked for input on a Campus Renewal Proposed Plan for development and updates for our parish buildings and grounds. We are extremely thankful for the outstanding number of responses, and we are working with Aly Sterling Philanthropy (our capital campaign consultants as-sisting development of this project) to have the results of that feedback compiled, analyzed and presented. This feedback will help us deter-mine what improvements our parishioners will collectively support and what items from the proposal may need to be revised, deferred or dropped from our planning. We expect to receive the results of this feedback in early to mid-July, and we will then incorporate these sug-gestions into the proposed plan. We anticipate that the feedback will be very diverse, but we will look at all of the information with an eye toward accommodating what appears to be in the best interest of the parish. We expect this process to take 45-60 days, so by late summer we may have a firmer idea of where we may be heading. You can still review the proposed plan submitted on our parish website (www.joanofarc.org). This proposal was a compilation of multiple past studies, various meetings and input gathered over the past year, plus the input of Rohn & Associates Design, Inc. (a world-renowned designer of sacred spaces). This proposal was an effort to digest what the parish has been telling us for an extended period of time. Now with broader parishioner input, we are at a point of deter-mining our best path forward with this project. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to sharing our findings in the coming months through various means, likely to include informational meet-ings open to all parishioners to present what we have discerned from the feedback. Tom Irmen Chairman, SJA Campus Renewal Committee
THANK YOU FROM FR. GARAND I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the parishioners of St. Joan of arc who have wished me well as I leave for St. Au-gustine in Napoleon. Thank you for the many gifts and cards. I will try to respond to you all individually, but if I don't, please un-derstand and know of my gratitude! I also want to thank the Knights of Columbus and Judy Warntz for their hard work on the re-ception following the 11:30 Mass on Father's Day. I will miss you all!
SUMMER FAMILY MOVIE NIGHTS Join us this summer for a family-friendly movie, popcorn and fellowship!
Friday, June 18
