For our system to work it is important that you advise the office and not just the classroom teacher of any lateness, or absence. Sometimes the regular teacher is not able to pass on information to the office before the automated text is sent out. If you feel your child is likely to be away for more than one day due to sickness, then please inform us of this when you make the first contact. We can then enter their absence accordingly, otherwise you will need to send a new message each day. Dear Parents / Caregivers,

With only two more weeks before our short last term we will be working on end of year deadlines as soon as the new term starts.

Organising classes for the upcoming year is always a complex task. Our ballot for out of zone enrolments for 2013 will be held early in term 4 and as soon as the Ministry of Education confirms our staffing and funding we can begin the exercise of organising next year’s classes. You can help us in this task by informing us as soon as possible if your child/ren will not be attending Tauranga Primary School next year.

Class Organisation 2013:

A lot of time and effort goes into placing our pupils at the start of each year. We need to consider numbers of students at each class level, the number of teachers we are allocated, the individual abilities of children, their social and behavioural skills and positive relationships.

We look closely at the needs of our special pupils and do our best to select the best match with the most appropriate class teacher. We must ensure however that all students’ needs receive due consideration, and that pressures are not exerted for placements with a specific teacher. Where necessary staff will discuss the placement of some children with their parents.

While we ask parents to allow us to exercise our professional judgement in placing all pupils fairly, we do appreciate some input from families where specific needs need to be met. It is not possible for senior staff to meet with all parents and listen to individual requests. For Your Information

We have just been informed that the Burger King being built on Cameron Rd between Fifth and Sixth Ave will have its traffic exit on Fifth Ave. This means that cars leaving Burger King can potentially turn right and drive through the school.

We believe that this is extremely hazardous as our 5 and 6 years olds cross the road to the senior site many times during the day, often without an adult.

The council have approved Burger King’s plan and are not prepared to make any changes that will ensure our children are kept safe from exiting BK customers.

We don’t believe this is good enough and are sharing our concerns with Burger King, the council, the newspapers and other appropriate agencies to bring about remedial changes before the building goes ahead.

We will keep you informed of the situation.

Jenny McNicol

If your child is in the school choir (Years 4-6) they are preparing for this year’s ‘Kids for Kids’ Concert. They will be on stage with Suzanne Prentice (a NZ Icon) at Baycourt Theatre on Tuesday 13th November.

We will send information about ticket sales closer to the time, but in the meantime, please remind your child to practise singing the songs. All words need to be known by the start of next term.

Year 5 - 6 students who wish to try for a soloist part will be auditioned on Monday lunchtime 17 September

More winter sports games are coming to an end this weekend with some very exciting play-offs happening. And there seems to be a TPS / Steiner rivalry emerging. It is the final game for the TPS Tall Blacks tonight at the TECT Arena!! They are playing against the Steiner All Stars at 5:25pm. These boys have had a very exciting season and are sitting in 2nd place on the Points Table with a game up their sleeves. A win tonight could put them at the top of the table! Best of luck boys!!

The TPS Stars Hockey Team is playing in the A3 Final tomorrow against the Steiner Falcons!! The team had to fight hard last week to win their semis, so they are fired up for another win!! This is going to be a great game and takes place at 12:00pm tomorrow at the Hockey Centre. So, if you are looking for something to do over the weekend, get down and support our teams!!! Go TPS!!!

A lot of our budding sports stars play for teams out of school at local clubs, and they too have been gathering to celebrate their teams and players. Tauranga Sports Rugby Club had their prize giving on Saturday, and there were a few boys from TPS amongst the trophy winners. Congratulations to the following rugby boys:

Will Savage ! ‘Best and Fairest Player‘ Under 6s Josh Beekie ! ‘Most Improved Back‘ ! Under 8sXavi Taele ! ‘Most Valuable Player‘ ! Under 8s Kai Murase ! ‘Most Valuable Player‘ ! Under 10s Levi Howarth ! ‘Best and Fairest Player‘ Under 11s

Waipuna Junior Football Club also awarded their top players recently and some of our junior students were there to get their certificates. Congratulations to:

Phoebe Hawes ‘Player of the Year‘ Jack Wilkins ‘Most Improved Player’

Once again, if you wish to share any of your successes on the sports fields, please let me know!!

Finally, due to the huge success of our Year 5 Hockey Team at the South Cluster 7s Tournament, they have now qualified to play in the WBOP 7s Championship next Wednesday. For the last few weeks the girls have been committed to training with loads of enthusiasm. Best of luck for next week!!

A reminder that all sports registration forms for Term 4 need to be returned to the school office with payment by Wednesday 19th September. Some of the teams are filling fast, so get them back quick in order to not miss out.

“PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR CHILDREN TO BUILD POSITIVE AND ENJOYABLE MEMORIES OF THEIR EARLY SCHOOL YEARS”

Next Meeting - 16th October, 7pm in the staff room, everyone welcome. Thanks to all who attended the movie night - it was a great fun and fund raiser for the school community, 105 tickets were sold, making a profit of $750 dollars. Thank you to Kristen Retter for co-ordinating this event.

To make events run smoothly we do need help and assistance. If you could make yourself available to assist that would "lighten the load" of a few and it is a great way to meet other parents of the school. There will be one committee person co-ordinating events, by volunteering to help you will not be "in charge" as such, you will be part of the helping team. Please complete the following form and return it to the office.
