NOW OFFERING INDEPENDENT SERVICES AND SHORT TERM STAYS The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley is now in its 20th year. We will celebrate our anniversary sometime during 2018.Over the past 20 years, The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley has developed into a premier senior living residence, meeting the needs of countless older adults from Hermitage and surrounding communities. Since 1998, The Ridgewood has offered a variety of accommodation and assistance with daily living activities. Most residents, who move to The Ridgewood, move with the intention of a long-term residency. Staff and management acknowledge that some individuals who inquire at The Ridgewood are independent and don’t need assistance but are interested in supportive services such as meals, housekeeping, and transportation. There is also an attraction to living in an environment where neighbors are close and residents have easy access to staff for emergen-cies or urgent needs. We also realize that sometimes when a couple moves into the residence that one may need assis-tance and the other may not. In response to these inquiries and types of situations, we have developed INDEPENDENT SERVICES for residents who do not require personal care or assistance with daily living activities. A list of services provided and fees for these services are available in our office or by calling 724-347-0998. In addition, on occasion we receive inquiries from families who are looking for short term support. Often this arises when family are primary caregivers for a loved one and are planning to be away from home or may need support for a designated period of time. We are happy to introduce SHORT TERM STAYS, where an individual stays with us in a furnished apartment for a limited time period. In this case, the resident only needs to bring with them personal items such as clothing and toiletries, as well as items of personal interest such as magazines, books and pictures. All other furnishings and accessories are provided and the daily rate is all inclusive (private apartment, meals, housekeeping, some transportation, personal care, laundry, cable, and telephone). All residents enjoy the social activities that take place throughout each month and the special events held each year. These added, independent services and short term stays are designed to meet the needs of our seniors. Additional services offered are St. Paul’s Without Walls private duty home care and VNA Alliance home health care. Both give op-portunity for residents to age in place. If you are interested in these or other services we have to offer please call us at 724-347-0998. We do have apartments available and encourage you to call soon. We are hosting an open house on Sunday, February 19th from 2-4:00 p.m. for those interested in touring and learning more about The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley.

BEAUTIFUL OUTDOOR SPACES TO ENJOY!

RESIDENT FEATURE Sarah “Sally” Clarke moved to The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley in Febru-ary of 2016. Her family is very happy with her decision to make the move. Sally celebrated her 101st birthday on February 27, 2016. Some of her fam-ily got to see her now home for the first time and they were very pleased with her accommodations and services and with the staff. Sally is originally from the Pittsburgh area. She is a registered nurse and worked in various places over a 25 year career including Pittsburgh Southside Hospital, in public health and as a school nurse. Her husband Frances died in 1963. Sarah has two sons – Bob and William who visit her regularly. William lives in Pittsburgh and Bob lives in Hermitage. During a visit with Bob he shared his perspective saying, “Socializing is key for my mom, a variety of activities in which she can engage. Mom loves to read and knit and enjoys music and televi-sion. Also, knowing she has 24/7 support from the staff is vital. It gives us a great sense of security.” Bob also commented on the residence saying that it is always immaculate and that residents and staff are always friendly. Staff says that Sally adapted very easily. She enjoys her table mates in the dining room. She especially enjoys her bananas and peanut butter. Sally cares for her own needs and only calls upon staff when she needs a little help. Sally says she continues to enjoy life and contributes long life to God and her happy family!

Jim Likens helps to care care of the beautiful grounds. Residents Betty and Mary enjoy the lovely courtyard with Sarah Chosky, activity director and Cheryl Redmond, administrative assistant.

Pictured is Sally with her son Bob.

Many take for granted the simple ability to sit outdoors and enjoy the scent of newly blooming flowers or fresh cut grass; or to feel the sunshine on your face and the gentle breeze in your hair. For the residents at The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley and their families and friends who visit, this experience is made more plea-surable through the generosity of donors whose gifts provide beauty, shade or a convenient place to sit.

This unique opportunity to make a memorial or honorary donation for someone you love will not only add beauty but provide a place for residents and their families to relax and enjoy for many years to come.

Your gift of $600 will secure a bench to be named in hon-or or memory of someone who was dear to your heart.

The benches were carefully chosen and are a composite wood design that will weather our climate. Each bench will feature a message of the donor’s choice on a 4x6-inch plaque and be placed on a cement pad with grass planted around them. Benches will be placed through-

out The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley grounds to replace existing wooden benches and to provide new seating areas, as well.

Your gift of $350 will secure the placement of a tree and ground marker at a location mutually agreed upon by the donor and the grounds manager.

With a gift of $125, an ornamental shrub and marker can be placed on the grounds in memory or honor of a loved one.

A personal appointment can be arranged for discussion of your preferences. For more info., please call Ron Duez at (724) 347-0998.

REMEMBERED WITH LOVE Betty Repas had come to The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley with the intentions of only staying for a couple of weeks while family nearby were out of town. Family recall mom deciding to stay until the end of the month at which time she announced that she had found her new “home” at The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley. Betty Repas lived at RWSV for more than 9 years. According to her daughter Grace Lordo, “Mom absolutely loved living here. She had great friends, en-joyed her apartment, and she was very social and particularly enjoyed the special events held throughout each year. Mom was so proud of her home.” Betty’s family was very pleased with her decision and always felt welcome when they visited. Shirley Koshan, Betty’s daughter visited almost daily. Betty’s other two children lived out of state and they made a point to visit for special occa-sions including Family Day, 4th of July Picnic and The Strawberry Festival. Grace and her family wanted to remember Betty in a special way so they decided to donate a bench in her name. “Mom loved sitting in the beautiful courtyard. The bench gives other residents and their family members a place to sit and also enjoy the beautiful grounds.” The bench is inscribed - Betty Repas - remembered with love!
