at Bradford College Students’ Union

There are plenty of ways to have your say about your college education and experience, and your Students’ Union are here to help!

Page 23: 140241 activities brochure autumn 2015

Talk to your course rep Every class in college has a course representative who is there to gather student feedback and pass it onto tutors and the Students’ Union.

Come to Student Parliament We hold general meetings at least once per term where you can find out what we’re up to, give us your feedback, vote on policy and let us know what you’d like us to do. It’s open to all students so please come along and get involved.

Speak to your Executive Officers You have a team of student officers who have been elected to represent your views over the next academic year. They are here to campaign on what matters to you and represent students at college meetings. Through the National Union of Students they work with other elected officers across the country on issues affecting students. You can vote for them in the March elections next year or run for election yourself!

Run a Campaign If there’s an issue that really matters to you and other students at college, why not get your voice heard by running a campaign? We can offer support to make sure you feel fully equipped to make an impact.

Become a Trustee Our Board of Trustees is students and charity sector experts working together. It keeps our Students’ Union running smoothly. If you’re over 18, meet the criteria, and can spare some time, then no other experience is necessary to be a trustee for up to 2 years or until your course finishes. This looks fantastic on your CV!

Come and say hello There are lots of ways to keep in touch with us, in our office, through our website, our student emails, and our social media pages. We organise lots of opportunities and events for you to get involved in throughout the year so keep an eye out!

Student Societies

Amnesty Society The Amnesty Society meet up to campaign and fundraise on behalf of Amnesty for issues they feel passionately about.

Networking Society“The Networking Society is for students interested in Networking and Server technologies. They have their own lab room in the Old Building which they use to work on solo projects and collaborate with other members using their own equipment, funded by yearly memberships and the Student Union. They also have a private Facebook group where they can communicate with current members and graduates, now working in industry. The society is made up of a diverse set of students but all with the common goal of getting the most from their studies and members of the Networking Society regularly achieve some of the best grades within H.E computing.”

UNICEF Society Like the Amnesty Society, UNICEF society members fundraise for issues they feel passionately about, and they cooperate with UNICEF nationally on campaigns.

Video Game SocietyThe gaming society allows people from all walks of life to bond over a common interest; gaming. We offer consoles, both old and new, and a fun, relaxed environment where people can make new friends, while playing great games. “Bradford College Gaming Lounge”

Football ClubThis group is five years old this year. It was set up by dedicated footballers who wanted to play more and compete with other teams. Anyone interested in Football can join. At present they meet up on Wednesday’s and Friday’s to practice and play other teams in across Yorkshire. They’re very active on facebook, search “Bradford College Football Society.”

Islamic SocietyIslamic society was formed in October 2014 to promote peace, love, equality and diversity. It supports Muslim students to observe their prayers and practice their faith whilst on campus. The ISOC organises many different events and fundraising activities where over 300 members benefit from its facilities. The society welcomes everyone from all backgrounds and beliefs.

Film SocietyThe Film Society will allow media, performing arts media and production students the opportunity to further increase their skills to a more professional standard. The society also tries to create a new film every month, this is something they want all members to input into.

LGBT SocietyThe LGBT+ society gives a safe space to LGBT+ people, as well as providing links to support them through their journey in college.
