RARE BREEDSShow

17 July 2016 26 - 27 November 2016

Food & Folk Festival, 1-2 May: The Museum’s spring food show is an annual celebration of the south east’s finest produce, crafts and traditions. Visitors will enjoy over 70 local foods, craft and trade stands, including dozens of fantastic food and drink producers from the region. In addition to browsing and buying, there will be a series of talks and cooking demonstrations, plus traditional folk music, storytelling, dancing and rural craft demonstrations. There is no need to book to watch the talks and demonstrations – all visitors to the show are welcome.

Heavy Horse Show, 4-5 June: An unforgettable weekend of heavy horse displays, demonstrations and parades. Weighing up to a ton and standing up to 19 hands high, these powerful and majestic horses are prized for their good looks, gentle temperament and capacity for work. In the arena, displays will include horse-drawn agricultural vehicles and brewers’ drays, plus a horse-drawn steam-powered fire engine. Parades take place at the end of each day, with a Grand Parade around the Museum site bringing the event to a conclusion on Sunday.

Rare & Traditional Breeds Show, 17 July: Four legs, furry legs, feathered legs… come and see cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and poultry in this delightful agricultural show for rare and traditional breeds. With prizes at stake and classes for young handlers, it is one of the biggest shows of its kind in the south east and hugely popular with visitors and exhibitors alike.

Vintage & Steam, 20-21 August: All the bustle and excitement of a traditional Steam Festival, with full-size, miniature and model steam engines on display and working around the site. Vintage, commercial and classic vehicles will be on display. Living wagons will be on show, alongside working steamrollers, steam lorries, model boats and a miniature railway. Take a ride on the steam-powered gallopers and visit the traditional vintage fair (local charges apply). With vintage music and themed refreshment stands, local crafts and traditional demonstrations, plus arena displays throughout the weekend.

Autumn Countryside Show, 8-9 October: Experience the sights, sounds and smells of the countryside at harvest time. At this beautiful time of year, experience teams of heavy horses ploughing the fields and vintage tractors at work. Enjoy a steam-powered threshing demonstration alongside falconry and dog displays, together with a fun dog show in the main arena. See woodland and rural craft demonstrations, plus thatching and traditional competitions. Also browse and buy gifts with a countryside theme at the many craft and trade stands. The 7th Horticultural Show will take place at the show with classes to suit all.

Christmas Market, 26-27 November: Reduced entry price £5 (free for Friends of the Museum). Find that perfect gift and enjoy a great day out at the Museum! Our bustling Christmas Market is located in and around the Museum’s historic buildings, with over 130 stands selling arts, crafts, food, unusual gifts and much more, you will be able to browse and buy at your leisure. As well as the craft and trade stands, there will be hot chestnuts to ward off the winter chill, and other tasty seasonal treats to sample and buy, including a delicious hog roast and festive music.
