ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE PROGRAM LEVEL TS 1-3 SCHEDULE: Tuesday to Friday: 7-8 pm Saturday: 3-4 pm E-MAIL: [email protected] COURSE OBJECTIVES (BY SKILL) 1. Listening: By the end of this level, students will be able to recognize responses to hello and good-bye; listen for personal information, and complete application forms; listen to a classroom conversation, and say where students are; recognize classroom instructions; u nderstand people’s descriptions of their friends ; listen for information and complete a chart; listen to conversations and predict what people say next; listen to a radio broadcast for the times and places of events; listen for topics in a conversation, and then react to statements; listen to people talk about their week and react appropriately; listen to conversations and identify what type of exercise each person does and why he or she enjoys it; listen to conversations in a store, and write the prices of items and which items  people buy; listen to someone talk about shopping, and identify s hopping preferenc es and habits; listen to a person talking a bout international foods, and identify the foods she likes; listen and identify the origin and meaning of words; listen to people describe their week, and choose a response; listen for how  people reme mber things, and identify the methods they use; listen to a conversation about last weekend, a nd identify main topics and details; listen to two stories, identify the details, and then predict the endings; listen to people talking about lunch, and identify what they want, and then react to statements; and listen to someone tell a friend about a restaurant, and identify important details about it. 2. Reading: By the end of this level, students will be able to understand different types of identification cards and documents, classroom conversation, and family trees; understand describing how much time people spend on daily activities over a lifetime; understand a magazine article and questionnaire about Internet use; understand a variety of classified ads from a local newspaper; understand an article about the benefits of walking for exercise and one about famous shopping spots around the world; understand a page from a travel website with information, pictures, and travel advice; under stand about people’s lives and their personal journals; understand a letter telling a funny story about a reader’s true experience; and understand restaurant descri  ptions and recommendations.
