Slidell was founded in 1882 after the New Orleans and Northeastern Railroad arrived in the area. Slidell was formally incorporated as a city in 1888. It was named after John Slidell, an American politician. Business in the city began to develop in the early twentieth century. Tourists can visit the Fort Pike State Historic Site, which has a fort, a museum and a picnic area. The structure was built between 1819 and 1826. The Fontainebleau Site Park is another tourist attraction where one can enjoy swimming, camping and wind surfing.

In mythology, the Titans were the children of Earth and Heaven and pre-dated later deities such as Zeus. Krewe of DionysusFebruary 8th- Sunday @ 1pm where: Slidell The Krewe of Dionysus celebrates 30 years of rolling through the streets of Slidell. Entertaining the citizens of Slidell will be the Krewe of 280 members on 18 floats, masquerading to the theme of "Made for Each Together."
