Annual Call To Prayer Marian Pilgrimage
PILGRIMAGE PREPARATIONS: Many thanks to
the men and women who have volunteered to assist
with church and grounds preparations for the
upcoming pilgrimage at Assumption
BVM. Already, the tables and chairs as well as
other pilgrimage items have been moved back into
the hall. We have volunteers to power wash the
shrine, to paint the outside steps into church and to
to clean and set-up the choir loft. There are still
more small jobs needed to be done. Please contact
Fr. Michael if you are willing and able to tackle one
or more of them. Any help you can offer is greatly
appreciated!
ABVM HALL RENOVATIONS: Please consider
making a special donation to help offset the cost of
the renovations and improvements in our church
hall. As you know, we rely on the generosity and
support of each of our parishioners, as well as that
of friends and neighbors, to maintain and improve
our facilities. Your special gift to our parish is a
sign of your love and gratitude for our very special
faith community. Thank you!
PILGRIMAGE PLANNING MEETING: We will
have a special pilgrimage planning meeting on
Sunday, August 4th immediately following Divine
Liturgy (@12:00 Noon). The meeting will be held
in our newly renovated church hall. I'm asking all
parishioners to set-aside the time to participate in
this meeting--it is very important! Your input and
suggestions help to make the annual pilgrimage a
success. Refreshments will be served
Replenishment Fund Gifts
We are still accepting donations/gifts to our Parish
Replenishment Fund established several years ago to
restore monies that were used for the church renovations
and repairs. Please consider making a special donation
to this fund. All donations remain here in our parish and
are meant to secure the future financial health of our
church. Your gift/donation will be greatly appreciated.

“Responding with the heart, as did Mary and
Josaphata”. The Pontifical Divine Liturgy, to be held
on Sunday will be celebrated by His Grace Metropolitan
Archbishop Borys Gudziak and other bishops of the
Ukrainian and Byzantine (Ruthenian) Catholic Churches

Spiritual Reading Lending Library
We have assembled a library based upon spiritual
reading, reflection and meditation for the benefit of our
parishioners and friends located in the vestibule of the
church. Everyone is invited to browse through and take a
book home to read. Once you have finished the book,
please return it so others can make use of it. As we strive
to live good Christian lives, it is important we fill our
minds and hearts with things that are “of the Lord”.
This week’s featured book is:
Rediscover Jesus - An Invitation
Featuring New York Times bestselling author Matthew
Kelly again, he takes us through thought processes that
can change our mindset. Where is Jesus today? We all
need to encounter Jesus, and no matter what is
happening in your life right now, nothing is more
important. In the bible, we read these epic tales of the
incredible ways that God transformed people and their
lives: Moses, Noah, Jonah, David, Mary Magdalene.
Why not you, why not me? Find some reassurance in the
pages of these stories whether you are fortunate enough
to have things going really well in life right now, or, if
like most Americans, feeling tired, stressed, overworked,
overwhelmed, feeling disgusted with some of the things
happening in our world and in the church today, and just
plain distracted, these words may be just what you
needed today, at this point in your life. Again providing
points to ponder, a verse to apply to your life, questions
to consider and a prayer, there will be much to think
about and ponder. Perhaps, some positive changes and
enhancements, and a Re-discovery of Jesus.
Set Up and Clean Up
Please note, help is needed on Saturday, July 27th
from 9 AM until Noon at the picnic grounds to set
up and prepare the hall and grounds for Ukrainian
Day. Also, help will be needed again on Monday,
July 29th beginning at 9 AM to tear down and clean
up following the event. Please plan to lend a hand.
Special Collection for the Seminary
Both parishes will have a special collection in
support of Seminary Day and our Seminary in
Washington, DC this weekend, July 20th and 21
st.
Please be as generous as possible in your offering.
Baskets Needed
Theme baskets are needed for Ukrainian Day on July
28th. All of the organizations in each parish are
asked to prepare a basket. But we are also in need of
additional baskets. This is a big draw at the picnic
and a large selection of baskets for bidding can bring
in a lot of money. Please consider making a basket
to donate. The only restriction is no alcohol can be
in a basket. Cash, gift cards, lottery tickets or new
items are always welcome. This is your chance to be
creative! Baskets can be dropped off at the Church
Office prior to the picnic or at the Picnic Grove on
the morning of July 28th.
Ukrainian Day Work Assignment
Both Mount Carmel and Centralia parishes are
scheduled to work 11 AM until 4 PM in the potato
cake stand. This is our usual assignment. We need
as many volunteers as possible during those busy
hours. Please, please, please come out and lend a
hand. This is very important. Also, if anyone is
interested in tending bar anytime during the day,
your help would be appreciated at that location, as
well.
Baked Goods Needed
As in previous years, homemade baked goods are
needed for Ukrainian Day. Our delicious sweets are
not only enjoyed at the picnic, but many visitors buy
treats to take home for later. Items can be dropped
off at the Church Office prior to the picnic or at the
Picnic Grove on the morning of July 28th. Break out
your special recipes and start your ovens!

Sunday After Pentecost
Troparion
Let us, the faithful, praise the Word * eternal with the
Father and the Spirit. * Let us adore Him Who was born
of the Virgin for our salvation. * For He willed to ascend
the cross as man and to suffer death * and to raise the
dead by His glorious resurrection.
Kontakion
Glory be to the Father and to the Son, and to the
Holy Spirit, Now and ever, and forever. Amen.
O Savior, You descended into the Abyss. * Being the
Almighty, You destroyed its power. * Being the Creator,
You raised the dead and dulled the sting of Death, * and
Adam was delivered from the curse. * And we all cry
out to You: * “O Lord, Lover of Mankind, save us!”
Prokimenon
You, O Lord will keep us and preserve us forever, * and
ever, * from this generation.
V: Help, O Lord for good men have vanished.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
I will sing forever of Your love, O Lord; through all ages
my mouth will proclaim Your truth.
V: Of this I am sure; that Your love lasts forever, that
Your truth is as firmly established as the heavens.
Alleluia! (3x)
Epistle: Rom 12:6-14
Gspel: Mt 9:1-8
Let There Be Peace on Earth and let it begin with me.
Let There Be Peace on Earth the peace that was meant to be!
With God as our Father, brothers all are we. Let me walk with my brother in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me. Let this be the moment now.
With ev'ry breath I take, let this be my solemn vow To take each moment and live each moment
in peace eternally! Let there be peace on earth
and let it begin with me!
For two thousand years, the most private and undistracted place was behind the closed door. Now, the noise has relocated indoors. If our computers and devices are near, it’s the worst place to try to pray. Walking through Times Square is less distracting than sitting alone in a room full of technology. I struggle to pray for seven minutes in my workspace! I have to set a timer, and if I don’t set my phone to do not disturb, good luck. I have to put my computer to sleep to avoid googling the first question that comes to mind. Oops, I forgot about the tablet. Looks like my friend is in Chicago for the day. I should text him about my favorite coffee shop there! Wait. Do not disturb is on. I’m doing what Jesus said, right? I’m closing the door, and then trying — in vain — to close all the digital doors that hijack my brain. Why is it so hard? Times Have Changed. You see, for eight hours a day I plug my mind into the machine and jump from task to task, interfacing endlessly with the devices in front of me. Day after day, year after year. How can I expect to sit in this same space and turn it all off after so much conditioning? I can’t. The problem is, where in the first century the room behind the closed door was private, in the modern era it’s often the most distracting place to pray. In the first century, people spent much of their time outdoors when they weren’t sleeping. Outside, you faced distraction. You saw the people you’d known your whole life. You saw the market — the center of ancient civic life. But today, if you go outside in a major city, suburb, or small town, you’ll likely find next to nobody walking around. If you see anybody, chances are you don’t know them. So why not pray outside? Go for a prayer walk. Yes, even in a Northern winter, or a 90 degree summer day. As the Norwegians say, there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing. Same Message, Different Means. Outside, you’re alone, but behind closed doors, your devices will chime ad nauseam with that constant nonsense, helping your brain from fix to fix, until you’ve neither prayed nor even enjoyed the time you’ve spent distracted. Pray without distraction. The message is the same, but the means have reversed. One of the best ways to close the door in the 21st century is to open the door and leave your home to go on a prayer walk. This is the opposite of shutting yourself in a room, but it accomplishes the same purpose in our era. Most cant leave the phone at home, but everyone can put it on do not disturb in your pocket. Pray. Start small and soon you may find it rewarding to walk for twenty or thirty minutes while you pray. You may enter into a communion with God you haven’t felt in years. You won’t be nearly as distracted. The fresh air and exercise will do you good too! Plus your mind will unplug from the noise. Turns out the dopamine-obsessed monkey on your back doesn’t like the weather.
