Adaption and Modifcation

Quick-Guard is a very exible encing system consisting oa minimum o dierent components, e.g. aluminium profles,patented brackets, net-locks, mesh, solid or noise reduc-tion panels. Using these components there are almost nolimitations as to what can be built. Quick-Guard encingcosts little to assemble and modiy. Assembly

Due to our patented screw-lock system, we can supply all

brackets pre-mounted with fxing screws and nuts. No holesneed to be drilled in the profles and all cutting is straight.This makes assembly and modifcation very easy.

Two versions o Quick-Guard

The Quick-Guard encing system is available in two versions,Quick-Guard (Standard) and Quick-Guard E which also canbe combined. The encing systems are also easy to adjustwhen production equipment is modifed and/or moved.

Proposal and ordering

By utilising our AutoCAD-based SaeCAD program we are

able to make system designs in 3-D very quickly. Drawings,cutting lists, etc. are generated rom SaeCAD and thedrawings can also be used or installation purposes.

Quick-Guard is environmentally riendly. All componentsin the Fencing System can easily be disassembled andreused. All materials in the Fencing System are 100%recyclable. Quick-Guard can also provide a pleasingergonomic working environment.

The ABB Jokab Saety patented guide and locking methodmakes it simple to assemble and dismantle the encing sys-tem. The nut has several advantages, it can easily be locatedinto the prole and automatically positions itsel when thescrew is turned 90 degrees clockwise. When in this posi-si-tion the bracket being xed can be adjusted as required andlocked by turning the screw urther clockwise. To remove

the bracket the xing screw is turned anti-clockwise untilthe nut is in line with the prole slot.

AllttingsaresuppliedPre-assembled.Fittingsthatdonot have a cast-in tab can be provided with a centringwasher.

Mount the xtures by rst slackening the screw 3/4 turnanti-clockwise. Then tighten the screw clockwise in theusual way. The nut will then automatically mechanically lockthe xture into the prole.

What does the standard say?EN ISO 13857 applies as saety distance or the riskzones. The standard includes the dimensions that applyor saety distances in various risk situations. The adjacentgure shows examples o dimensions or saety distancesor two dierent ence heights where the risk o injury isrelatively small when you reach in.

With respect to mesh, you speciy a minimum distance o200 mm (or people 14 and above) or mask size 40 x 40mm.Forshorterdistancesandfornoisereductionweuseully tting panels. When the ence is to protect a robot cell,or example, the ence protection should be placed at a mini-mum distance o 500 mm between the ence protection andthe moving machine part that reaches urthest out (as perEN 349). When test running or programming there must bea space between the encing and any moving parts to en-sure the operator does not become wedged between them.

You only order sections consisting o a ew components.Then the encing system is built on site. A manual mesh

clipping tool, or easy cutting o the mesh, is providedwith the delivery i needed. The proles are easily cutwith a crosscut saw. The advantage o using aluminiumisthatitisnotammablewhencut.Comparedtoironwhich require a re-watcher in many industries.

Premount foor xtures on vertical posts. Mount xtures byrst slackening the screw anti-clockwise. Then tighten thescrew clockwise in the usual way, the nut will then auto-matically locate into the correct position and mechanicallylock the xture into the prole. Make sure that the nut hasturned correctly.

Assemble the next section. The distance between theposts can be adjusted some mm ater the mesh is lockedin with the Net-locks. The mesh can be angled up to 45°without using hinges (JSM 35-K).

Lock the top o the mesh using NL3 netlocks; this waythe mesh is secured, stabilised and electrically grounded.Grounding is needed when electrical devices or cables areassembled on the mesh.

Quick-Guard® E - design directly on site

Quick-Guard E is installed quickly and cost eectivelybecause it only consists o patented net-locks, weldedmesh, panels o polycarbonate, u-proles and ence posts(proles with foor-brackets). All parts or Quick-Guardand pre-assembled doors are delivered immediately romstock. The ew components o the encing system make it

easy or you to custom build and install the encing systemyourselves.The strength o the encing system originates rom the

act that the welded mesh and/or panels o polycarbonateare ‘locked’ into the prole. The outer wire o the meshis locked by uniquely designed ‘netlocks’ into the prolemaking the xing virtually as strong as being welded. Thepolycarbonate panels are locked in with specially designedinll-locks which, according to our tests, have been asstrong as the mesh netlock system. I you want more stableencing posts, you can choose a sturdier prole measuring44 x 88 mm instead o the standard 44 x 44 mm prole.

It is always easy to combine Quick-Guard E with Quick-Guard standard to achieve a complete system. It is also easyto adjust and modiy the guarding system when productionequipment is modied and/or moved.

The same encing sections can be erected in several ways.

Measure the number o metres o encing that are requiredand determine the number o doors. Our two standard sec-tions have a cc width o 1100 mm and 1500 mm. The cc orthe door is 1100 mm and ts anywhere the cc is 1100 mmbetween the posts.I dimensions other than the standard dimensions areneeded, just cut the mesh to the correct size with a boltcutter.

Quick-Guard® E- can be ordered in sections

One can easily assemble the Express sections. It is also possible to angle these sections (45°). The mesh can easily be cut to the desired size with a simple clipping tool.

Quick-Guard Express can be ordered in die-rent sections consisting o a ew components.By adding the dierent sections, one can easily build aguard encing system.

Quick-Guard® Standard and SaeCAD®

Quick-Guard consists o a minimum o dierent components,such as aluminum proles, patented assembly parts, net-locks,mesh,solidornoisereductionpanels.Furthermorethe cost or assembly and modication o the system islow. Thanks to our patented screw-lock system, we cansupply all brackets pre-mounted with xing screws andnuts. No holes need to be drilled in the proles and all cuts

are made straight. Assembly and modication is thereorevery easy.

To be able to quickly and easily custom design practicalsaety solutions, we have developed a computer programme,

SafeCAD. This is a ‘plug-in’ program for AutoCAD®. Asimple sketch o the guarding system that is required isused as the program input. The positions o doors andhatches, choice o mesh, polycarbonate, aluminum/steelsheet or noise reduction panels are typed in. The programautomaticallygenerates3Ddrawingsalongwithcomponentand cutting lists. These drawings are also used as the basis

or assembly/ installation.It is always easy to combine Quick-Guard E with Quick-

Guard to achieve a complete system. It is also easy to adjustand modiy when the production equipment is modied and/or moved.

Assembly o the Quick-Guard® system is very easy. All com-ponents are very light in weight and ergonomic in design.This enables, in most cases, one man to be able to assembleboth simple and complex structures with ease using veryew dierent types o xing components. All xtures canbe mounted easily rom “outside” by using the specially

designed ”locking nut” which can be located anywhere inthe extrusion channel. The xture components, by means ointegral locating keys, ensure that correct angles are achievedand enable the number o bolts/nuts to be reduced to halthe number that would otherwise be required.

When assembling the Net-lock NL3 it is rst put into

the prole with the tabs on each side o the mesh wire.The screw is then tightened. When cutting the weldedmesh the wire ends should be at least 15 mm to tinto the prole. NL3 must be used to lock the meshinto the slot.

FITTINGSABB Jokab Saety’s encing system is put together with various types o tting. Uprights are anchored to the foor withfoor angle ttings. With a small angle tting it is possible to hang an electrical enclosure and strengthen the cornersoffree-standingwalls.CornersandjointsareconstructedwiththeaidofT,LandIttings.Ifanglesdifferentto90°between the ence sections are required, a JSM 35-K angle tting can be used. This hinge has a distance betweencentres o 47 mm, which means that the gap between uprights will always be less than 20 mm. According to EN ISO13857, the minimum permitted protection distance is 120 mm or a gap narrower than 20 mm.

Roller door or short saety distancesand narrow spaces

SafetyRollerDoorsmakeitpossibletohaveashortsafetydistance to the machine. The noise absorbing roller door iscompact and it can thereore be placed in narrow spaces.

It is easy and quick to access the machine or gain accessforservicingwiththeSafetyRollerDoor.It demands a minimum o maintenance and oers reliable

operation. To be able to start the machine/plant the door hasto be completely closed. The closed position is monitoredby the Eden non-contact sensor rom ABB Jokab Saety.As soon as the door begins to open the Eden sends asignaltothemachine/plantviathePlutoSafety-PLCfromABB Jokab Saety. The roller door ullls saety category4 together with Eden and Pluto. Protects against welding splashThe roller door protects against ejected particles, such

as chips and welding splash. The roller door abric is alsoresistant towards a great number o chemicals, whichpermits it to be installed in harsh environments.

Simple assemblyTheSafetyRollerDoorissimpletoassemblebecauseit consists o ew components and it is supplied partly

pre-assembled. It can be integrated into the Quick-Guardencing system rom ABB Jokab Saety as well as in othertypes o encing systems. It can also be installed on themachine or other permanent construction.

Customized roller doorThis door design is easy to customize. The largest pos-sible opening width is 4000 mm and the largest possibleopening height is 3500 mm. The maximum size o the doorabric is 10 m2. I a larger door abric is desired, contactABB Jokab Saety. The door is supplied as standard with alight-grey door abric. Other colours can also be supplied.The roller door can be supplied with a viewing window in

ull width and at an optional height. The viewing windowcan also be made in a special material that protects againstwelding splash.

The monitoring o the door´s position by two Eden sensorstogether with with a Pluto monitoring unit ullls kat. 4/PL eenligt EN ISO 13849-1. These units are certied by TÜV.

FunctionsThe door protects against access to moving parts in themachine/plant. The production process can begin whenthe door is ully closed. The closed position is monitoredby an Eden sensor on both sides o the door. Because thedoor is monitored by Eden sensors at both sides o the doorit is impossible to lit one side o the door and reach intothe risk area without the machine/plant stopping. Whenthe door has moved a maximum o 10 mm upwards a stop

signal is sent to the protected machine/plant. The EdensensorsaremonitoredbyaPlutoSafety-PLCwhichhasailsae outputs or stopping the machine/plant in the riskarea and to control the door. The door also protects rom particles ejected by the pro-duction process, e.g. chips and welding splash. It has agood sound absorbing ability. Because the door operatesquickly, at 0.8-1.0 m/s, the operator has a good accessto the machine area. The door is equipped with a saety

Note. The roller door has good protection against weldingsplash and smaller ejected particles rom the the productionarea. The roller door is not intended to act as collision pro-tection. The installer o the roller door has the responsibility

o ensuring that sucient saety distance against movingmachine parts is provided.

Saety distances & standards

Functioncontact strip in the bottom preventing it rom causing per-sonal injury on any person. When the saety contact strip

is aected the door is is compressed, the door movementreverses to move upwards. The opening and closing o thedoor can be controlled via the buttons or via the signalsrom the control system o the machine.

Prevents an unintentional startWhen the door is located in ront o the machine/plant, wherethe operator can enter the area with his entire body, saeinterlocking o the door´s downward movement is needed.This is to prevent the machine rom being started rom theoutside when somebody is inside the roller door. One way to solve this is to use a horizontal light curtainwhich covers the area which the operator can occupy within

the risk area. Another solution is to place double light beamsin the opening, combined with a reset acility. Yet anothersolution is to use time-reset. A time-reset button is placedinside the risk area and a button is placed outside the riskarea.First,thebuttonintheriskareashouldbepressedandthereater (within a certain amount o time, e.g. 5 seconds)the button outside should be pressed. Ater this the doorcan be manoeuvred downwards.
