Sixth Form Biology trip to Arran

The first few days of the biology field trip brought an unbroken spell of glorious weather. We were able to make the most of the house’s idyllic rural setting – strolling along the ‘village trail’, following a rather more strenuous uphill path along the hills, investigating fresh water ecology and a rocky sea shore. It was exciting to wake up to surrounding green hills, whereas usually we wake up to the city-scape of London. As part of our trip, we often walked to the rocky sea shore. The weather at first

on Tuesday was very windy and rainy, but this was all broken by a spell of wonderful sunshine and the brightly coloured rainbows. We saw different size crabs, which we got to hold. This was definitely another factor which made the trip exciting. I mean how many times in London do we get to hold crabs crawling on the palms of our bare hands?

HistoryMatters

On Wednesday 6th November, four student representatives from the ‘History Matters’ project participated in a Walk and Talk session at ‘The Goodsyard’ in Shoreditch. Another student from Bethnal Green Academy also attended the session with his local youth group. Clad in high visibility jackets and hard hats, the students received a unique tour of what used to be Bishopsgate Railway Station and goods yard, before engaging in a discussion concerning their ideas of how the area should be redeveloped. We were lucky enough to be able to see parts of the current proposals for the site’s redevelopment, which will include 2000 new homes, leisure facilities and a park. The students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to have their voices heard, with one of the Year 7 students claiming ‘how wonderful it is to see what the future might look like.’

The students were absolute assets to Bethnal Green Academy. Their contributions to the discussion were of an exceptionally high standard and excellent feedback on their behaviour and ideas was received from the team at ‘The Goodsyard’. The students’ comments will be used to represent the ‘youth voice’ of Tower Hamlets concerning the redevelopment project, meaning that they are not only true ambassadors of the school but equally of the borough.
