I have two issues that I would like to call to your attention.

First, with so much focus on health insurance, the unacceptable position in which Florida owners of mobile and manufactured dwell-ings insured by Citizens Property Insurance Corporation find them-selves appears to be merely back-ground noise. As one such home-owner, I had no idea that neither my glassed-in lanai nor my patio is covered any longer; I also didnt know that my coverage is now lim-ited to actual cash value as op-posed to replacement cost. One really bad storm and, despite all the premiums Ive paid, Im wiped out. Fortunately, our FMO created legislative SB 378 and HB 573 are aimed at stopping these changes and more.

Like any other watchdog group, FMOs strength is derived solely from those it representsand that means numbers. Please do three things:

    1) Join FMO. Dues are only $22 for a yearless than $2.00 a month.

    2) Talk to your neighbors about the issue.

    3) Sign the petition in the HOA office supporting SB 378 and HB 573.

Many, many people will benefit from the few dollars and minutes you spend.

While the insurance problem pains me on a financial level, the second issue is much more per-sonal. Neither I nor anyone on the Board has a magic wand to fix all

of the problems brought before us. I believe we choose to live in Del Tura not only because of its loca-tion and amenities, but also be-cause, in this period of our lives, we want to live among people who are friendly, caring, and share our values about what it means to be good neighbors: tended houses and yards, unobtrusive visitors and pets, and respect for the regu-lations that make it possible for us to live in harmony. For these rea-sons, it comes as an unwelcome surprise when residents are rude or intimidating, assume their lives are too important to obey the 16 mph speed limit, and refuse to re-spect restriction of pool use after 7:00 p.m. to adults, or argue over ceding room use to those who have made prior reservations. Short of hiring some sort of official guards to enforce our preceptsan ac-tion I doubt anyone wants to take,

our only recourse is the goodwill we have toward one another.

HOA Board members have no more power than the individual resident to stop people from be-having badly. However, every resident needs to be willing to stand up for the community ethos by speaking up, civilly, to insist that rules be respected. If the HOA Board receives specifics in writing about a particular incident, we can explain the rules and pro-cedures, ask for compliance, and hope that good will and good con-science will trump self-interest.

I am most grateful for the peo-ple who have worked so hard and willingly offered their time and experience to make my transition onto the HOA Board as smooth as possible.

Should You Take a Pension Buyout? Have you recently received a pension buyout offer? If so, you need to decide if you should take the buyout, which could provide you with a potentially large lump sum, or continue accepting your regular pension payments for the rest of your life. Its a big decision.

Clearly, theres no one size fits all answer your choice needs to be based on your individual circumstances. So, as you weigh your op-tions, youll need to consider a variety of key issues, including the following:

Estate considerations Your pension payments generally end when you and/or your spouse dies, which means your children will get none of the money. But if you were to roll the lump sum into an Individual Retirement Account (IRA), and you dont exhaust it in your lifetime, you could still have something to leave to your family members.

Taxes If you take the lump sum and roll the funds into your IRA, you control how much youll be taxed and when, based on the amounts you choose to withdraw and the date you begin taking withdrawals. (Keep in mind, though, that you must start taking a designated minimum amountof withdrawals from a traditional IRA when you reach age 70. Withdrawals taken before age 59 are subject to taxes and penalties.) But if you take a pension, you may have less control over your income taxes, which will be based on your monthly payments.

Inflation You could easily spend two or three decades in retirement and during that time, inflation can really add up. To cite just one exam- ple, the average cost of a new car was $7,983 in 1982; 30 years later, that figure is $30,748, according to TrueCar.com. If your pension checks arent indexed for inflation, they will lose purchasing power over time. If you rolled over your lump sum into an IRA, however, you could put the money into investments offering growth potential, keeping in mind, of course, that there are no guarantees.

Cash flow If youre already receiving a monthly pension, and youre spending every dollar you receive just to meet your living expenses, you may be better off by keeping your pension payments intact. If you took the lump sum and converted it into an IRA, you can withdraw whatever amount you want (as long as you meet the required minimum distributions), but youll have to avoid withdrawing so much that youll eventually run out of money.

Confidence in future pension payments From time to time, companies are forced to reduce their pension obligations due to unforeseen circumstances. You may want to take this into account as you decide whether to continue taking your monthly pension payments, but its an issue over which you have no control. On the other hand, once your lump sum is in an IRA, you have control over both the quality and diversifica- tion of your investment dollars. However, the trade-off is that investing is subject to various risks, including loss of principal.

Before selecting either the lump sum or the monthly pension payments, weigh all the factors carefully to make sure your decision fits into your overall financial strategy. With a choice of this importance, you will probably want to consult with your financial and tax advisors. Ulti-mately, you may find that this type of offer presents you with a great opportunity so take the time to consider your options.

    DEL TURA

What do these three things have in common? Well first you need to know a little bit about my Mom. Perhaps youll recognize many of these traits as you think about your Mom.

A heart as big as the moona smile, that could light up the dark-est corner of the eartha touch, that could calm the roughest wa-ters. Oh, the power of a mothers

love! A mothers love is forever, a special love that bonds her and her child and is unselfishly shared with others.

Tradition was very important in our family! Mom made sure of that all through the year. Celebra-tions and holidays were always connected in some way with our culture. Special recipes, decora-tions, and customs were handed

Reflections May Day Baskets, Maypoles and a Moms TeachingsBy Dianne Roderickdown and as with each generation someone was expected to be the Matriarch. In our family, after our Grandmothers passed away, our mother became the Matriarch a role she was proud to inherit. She was the heart of our family, keeping both sides of our family together and honoring the tradi-tions of two different cultures be-came her responsibility.

In our home May came in more powerful than Marchs rep-utation of coming in like the lion. Preparation for the month of May actually started the last week of April. Following the English tra-dition of our Dads family it was customary to prepare May Day Baskets. It was quite a gathering! We sat around the kitchen table, decorating small baskets with colorful crepe paper and filling them with candies and cookies, or small plants. Then on the first day of May the children were sent out into the neighborhood to hang them quietly on the doorknobs of our elderly or ailing neighbors. It was a day for spreading cheer and letting them know that others cared and were thinking of them. As children we knew we were doing acts of kindness, but we didnt realize then that we were also learning lessons in compas-sion. It wasnt until we were a little older that we realized the total impact of those little gifts of the heart.

Maypole dancing was another English tradition which was en-joyed by many schoolchildren every May. I can remember dancing around the tall flagpole that had been decorated from the very top with long, colorful streamers. Boys and girls would move in and out in a graceful dance taught to us so patiently by our schoolteachers. Then after much practice, we would invite our families to come and watch our performance. We were so ex-cited! My Grandpa was so proud! He was standing there in his three piece brown striped suit wearing his soft hat and a big smile on his face. (That was a rare sighthe seldom had a smilebut I know now that it must have reminded him of his home in England).

Throughout the busy month of May, in between Mothers Day and Memorial Day our fam-ily continued to work together. There were flowers to be planted and gardens to be prepared. I cant say I didnt enjoy the fruits of our labor, but being a typical kid, did I really want to spend weekends working in the garden? When I think about it nowthose were very special times. It was quality time spent with my Dad, times that bring a smile to my face as I think about those pleas-ant memories. He was so patient and worked so hard in that gar-den. I can hear my mother asking him if he had planted the kale and the mint. Yes, dear, I have! As I mentioned earlier, Mom was re-sponsible to keep the traditions of two cultures together. So, on the Portuguese side you had to have the kale and the mint for those special soups that were served on those special days throughout the year. Believe me! There was enough mint and kale to feed the whole neighborhood and we did!

On Memorial Day it was cus-tomary for the family to attend a parade that honored all the Vet-erans that had died in the U.S. Armed Forces. We would stand and cheer as each parade unit marched by, waving our flags so proudly. Everyone took off their caps and saluted to show respect as Old Glory passed by. Follow-ing closely behind, playing their beautiful marching music softly, were the local and neighboring high school bands. Such a proud moment for them and for us!

Then it was on to the cemetery to plant flowers in memory of our loved ones. I dont know how mom remembered the locations of each gravesite. We would fol-low quietly along, watching as our parents placed a small plant lovingly in front of each stone. Then we would all say a silent prayer and continue on to the next gravesite. As I reflect on this now I can remember the cemetery be-ing filled with lots of activity and yet there was a hard to describe silence, a sad heaviness to it all. As children we knew what

it meant to be sad, but we truly didnt have the life experiences to put it all together then. That indescribable silence was, as we now know as adults, is made up of emotions that come and live in our hearts each time we lose a loved one. Thankfully, we have the memories of the good times with our loved ones that also live within our heartsthese are the ones we celebrate, the ones that give us those warm feelings and put smiles on our faces!

Following our visit to the cemetery it was customary for the family to gather back at our house for a meal, as Mom would put it, in memory of the souls. There was plenty of Kale soup and Portuguese bread for all! This was a favorite time of the day for all of us, as children we learned so much about our past loved ones. It was a time of celebrat-ing their lives! A time to relive the happy memories, a time for laughter and even tears (happy tears). As adults its important to continue sharing our stories of the past with each generation, as it will be for them to share with their children.

At the beginning of this ar-ticle I asked what Moms had in common with all the other spe-cial days in May. As I reflect on those May days of the past I wonder how we managed to cel-ebrate Mothers Day. My Mom use to say, no need for a special day, every day is Mothers Day! I think that we can all agree that without the love and guid-ance of a mother we would not be who we are today. We know that Moms are at the heart of all we are. Her teachings and in-fluence on those special days in May, and each day of our lives, becomes more pronounced as we grow older. The customs and tra-ditions that we share and pass on to our children are truly examples of a mothers powerful love. It is for all these reasons that Moth-ers should be honored on their special day in May. Moms are Amazing!!

    Happy Mothers Day!

    DEL TURA book Review

Nineteen MinutesBy Jodi Picoult Submitted by Carol Essary

This is a scary book! Peter has been the object of bullies since the first day of Kindergarten when the bigger kids threw his brand new lunch box out the window of the school bus. His school career only went downhill from that point. He was not a big kid, untalented when it came to sports. Even his big brother found it unsavory to take a stand in his favor. His par-ents tried to help urging him to stand up for himself, to little or no avail. In the early years, he had one ally, a little girl named Josie who took pity on him and gave him some solace. But as the years went by, even Josie deserted Pe-ter. In her quest to be accepted and popular with her peers, she found it easier to turn a blind eye to Pe-ters torment. Still he had feelings for Josie and when her popular friends intercepted an e-mail to her and circulated it throughout

the high school, Peter was hu-miliated. Josies boyfriend, Matt, a popular sports figure in school, adds fuel to the fire by surround-ing Peter with his buddies and pulling his pants and shorts down in the school cafeteria.

Peter, frustrated and humili-ated, hating himself as well as the

whole world, takes guns and am-munition to school and in nineteen minutes, wipes out eleven of his tormentors and seriously wounds many others. It is a scene all too real and reminiscent of actual school shootings. Jodi Picoult does an excellent job of capturing her readers; her characters come to life in her words. She winds a tight tale around the trial and flashbacks to earlier times. When she has you to-tally engrossed, she springs a sur-prise ending with a strange twist.

I think shes a fine writer, and this is a really good read!

As our friends from the North start to return home, the days grow longer and the temperature starts to climb. We hope everyone had a great winter of fun and relaxation and wish all of you a wonderful summer.

It was a terrific season in ceram-ics. We now have more members than seats and that is a lot of fun too. However, we wanted to re-mind everyone that the room will

remain open throughout the sum-mer months. We have plenty of projects on the shelves, an array of different paints and there are many girls who live here year round to help. The hours will re-main the same.

And, incase you should get some little visitors over the sum-mer; we now have projects for children and teens. For approxi-mately $5.00, you can select something to make and we will supply the paint and the brushes.

In most instances, the project can be finished in one day. This is a great way to keep the younger folks amused and have some fun at the same time.

And then when the heat sub-sides and the great weather re-turns, we will have all kinds of holiday projects for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and of course, Christmas. Some of our members have made terrific gifts.

We look forward to seeing you!

    DEL TURA

    1/14

    By Mary Richardson

We all observe Memori-al Day as a time of remem-bering and honoring the fallen heroes of American wars, but we also want to take a moment and honor some of the World War II veterans who are living among us in Del Tura to-day. One of these veter-ans is ninety-two-year-old ROY (BUD) YAUCH who lives on Catalina Drive with his wife Katy and their two little dogs, Holly and Molly Brown.

Bud was born in Chi-cago in 1921 and gained the nickname Buddy at an early age. Today he is still known as Bud. He attended school in the Windy City and then stud-ied at Wright College for two years. In 1942 when the war was getting into full swing, the prospect of being drafted loomed greatly over Buds head. His best friend enlisted in the Navy Air Force and being able to fly himself intrigued Bud greatly, but he didnt like the idea of going to sea. The thought of joining the army and flying for them appealed to him, however, and he enlisted in that branch of the service.

Meantime he had grown deeply in love with his childhood sweetheart, Betty Jane, and they decided to marry before he had to deploy overseas. His first training base was Eagle Pass, TX. Later he received additional training in Venice, FL, where he earned his wings and became acquainted with this area.

Once Bud learned to fly a P47 plane he was sent to the Mediterranean island of Corsica and from there he flew missions over Italy. His plane car-ried two 500-pound bombs. Reconnaissance spot-ters would locate a target ahead of time, which was usually a railroad line or a fleet of trucks, and then Bud, as the pilot, would swoop low to score a direct hit on them. Of course, this also involved dodging the anti-aircraft fire that was directed at his plane. He was in the 524th Fighter Squadron on these mis-sions.

Bud flew one hundred missions over Italy, France and Germany and took part in the Allied in-vasion of southern France. He learned to fly a PT Thunderbolt and flew that craft for thirteen months. He earned an Air Medal with Six Oak Leaf Clusters for coolness in the face of enemy anti-aircraft and was also promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant. Eventually, however, Bud became concerned that his good luck in battle might desert him. At that point he was assigned to the position of a ground-

air coordinator and as-sisted in the operation of the freeing of the Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany.

After VE Day in 1945 Bud was discharged from the Army and returned to Chicago and his wife Betty Jane. The couple eventually became the parents of both a son and daughter, Kent and Karen. Seeking a new career, Bud went to work for his fa-thers friend who owned a landscaping and irriga-tion business near Chi-cago. After a few years he and another worker broke away from that establish-ment and formed their own irrigation company. Unfortunately, Betty Jane died of a brain aneurysm leaving him as a widower.

Later he married a lady named Bernice but again, unfortunately, she died of liver cancer after they had been married only one year.

In 1979 he met his current wife Katy through mutual friends and they were married in 1980. Katy had two daughters and a son. Between them they now have eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In later years Bud owned his own airplane and he also owned a house in Venice hav-ing become familiar with the area from his old flight training days.

Having friends in Lake Fairways, he and Katy became acquainted with Del Tura and bought their current home here in 1985, becoming one of our early residents. Because he had played golf since the age of twelve, our golf courses here were an early attraction for him to live in our community. He also enjoyed playing tennis and was an avid poker player for twenty years. As Katy is a talented crafter, Bud has also happily assisted her with her many projects. Katys sister, Volga Hoglund, now lives on Del Mar Drive and her daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Joe Angelilli, live on Via Del Sol.

Those readers who were around in the 1930s probably remember the traditional Memorial Day celebrations when a small handful of Civil War vet-erans rode in the local parade to the applause of the spectators. Now the ranks of our World War II vet-erans are dwindling. On May 27 when we observe Memorial Day this year, please take a moment to thank Bud Yauch and our other Del Tura veterans for their participation in helping to keep America the land of the free.

The picture shows Bud with his scrapbook of wartime mementos and citations.

By Jack Blevons Here we are, in the month of

May already. Our shuffleboard is over for another season. I can't believe how fast the time went. We had another fantastic season, thanks to the many subs and to the many new subs that played with us to fill in for regular league members when they were unable to play for one reason or another. I don't know how our league could have functioned without all you fine people. We had a lot of fun like we always do and hope you subs enjoyed playing with us. We have a fantastic bunch of people who are in our league, most that have been playing for at least the past nine years that I have been league captain.

Here are the final standings of our league. In the "A" flight, Ben Hargraves/Bob Crawford won the 1st place trophies once again with a 47/7 record, Jack and Janet Ble-vons won the 2nd place trophies for the 3rd year in a row with a 42/12 record and the 3rd place trophies went to Pete Slusarski/Doris Thurber at 39/15. This year we also had 4th place winners that were allowed into the new 8-Team Tournament and they were Fred and Carolyn Brueggemann with a record of 37/17. The "B" flight winners were Len Fleming/Don-na Crawford at 36/18, Stan Peters/Don Mummert in 2nd place at 31/23 and Mary Pimental/Cindy

Forest at 27/28 in 3rd place after winning the tiebreaker with Rog-er/Debbie Lattimer at seasons end and then finished at 26/29 in 4th place. As in previous years, the winners are usually decided in the last 3-games of the season. On March 22nd we held our new 8-team Tournament for the first time. This replaced our 6-team Shoot-Out Tournament held in previous years. These are the win-ners of our new tournament. Win-ners of the Mike Collins Memo-rial Championship trophies were the team of Ben Hargraves and Bob Crawford. The 2nd place winners were Mary Pimental and Cindy Forest and the 3rd place trophies went to Fred and Carolyn Brueggemann. Congratulations to the Tournament winners and also all the other trophy winners in both the "A" and "B" flights.

Our 9th Annual Bust-Up party followed on Friday, March 29 in the Royal Palm Ballroom. We had 40 people in attendance that all had a lot of fun with the 18 trophies and certificates be-ing given to the winners and had their pictures taken for next year's picture board. We had more than enough to eat and drink so no-body went home hungry. I want to thank everyone who helped at the party, namely Glenn and Mary Kay Tointon who helped Janet and me set up and warm the food. Also to Gail and Ben Hargraves, Glenn and Mary Kay and my wife

Janet for serving and also Gail Hargraves, who seems to always end up in the kitchen doing dishes with Donna Crawford helping her. If I forgot anyone, forgive me. Thanks to Gail for bringing macaroni salad and also the ladies who brought such good desserts. I want to thank Mary Kay who gra-ciously donated a new push stick that was raffled off and the lucky name that was drawn to win it was Kathy Boesol. I think I can speak for all those who were there that we all had a great time and look forward to next season's play that will start again in late October.

In closing I want to thank again, Hometown and John Rutt-man for supplying us with the necessary glass beads, chalk and the necessary small parts we need to repair the broken push sticks. Thanks to the maintenance people who clean our courts each week and make repairs there when needed. We are fortunate that we have a community that not only provides us with twelve courts to play on but they also maintain and keep them in fine shape for not only our league, but also the Travel League, the renters bunch who play on Thursdays and those who play on Tuesdays, along with those that just come down by themselves just to play to have fun. Not all communities are that fortunate. Things like that are what make Del Tura such a great place to live.

    DEL TURA

Flowers are present throughout both happy and sad occasions. During christenings, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, sick-ness, funerals, and so many other occasions, the presence of flow-ers helps us to celebrate or to cope. Flowers are also present in our everyday world - in gardens, yards, parks, etc. where their beauty brings us much pleasure. Most of us have a favorite type of flower that means something to us because of its shape, color, fragrance, or because of a past experience. A poll of Good Tim-ers recently showed that the most popular favorite of our members was the rose. Alice Gash, Fran Pouliot, and Pat Gilmour liked any color rose, while Lorna Cal-lan preferred yellow, and Lisa Nusbaum preferred red. Other favorites included carnations.

Gerri Camburn, Lee Arthur, Anna Incorvaia, Millie Ciccarelli, and Cathy Wallace included. Cathy specified her favorite was pink. Among the other flower favorites were gardenias (Bev Krueger, Gloria Ellis, Linda Leeper, and Bea Botterbusch), daffodils (Al-ice Harris and Winnie Guzowski), and orchids (Barbara Boyd and Peg Giavanti). Other individual favorites included Peg McTernan (lilacs), Louise Dodge (lilies), Kathleen Quigley (dahlias), Deb Alt (violets), Serafina Goncalves (daisies), Nancy Skorlinski (mag-nolias), Millie Hanrahan (camel-lias) and Susan Savitt (gladiolas).

A heartwarming book of fiction that deals with what each flower means, The Language of Flow-ers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh, was recently read and enjoyed by Kathleen Quigley, Barbara

Boyd, and yours truly. Whatever your favorite flower, may they be there, like good friends, dur-ing good times and sad times, to brighten your life.

We celebrated the April birth-days of Jean Cochran and Alice Gash at Sabel Springs. Always a favorite dining destination with our group, it was our first time there since the renovation of the dining room, and the decor, as well as the food, was given a thumbs up.

At our April meeting, we wel-comed new member Lisa Nus-baum. We look forward to shar-ing many good times with you, Lisa. We wish speedy recoveries to two members, Bill Southwick and Judy Fehrman. You were both missed at our recent meet-ings and dinners.

    The Road Rally, organized this

year by Pat Gilmour and Bon-nie Sharpless, was held after The Tower deadline, so hang in there, results will be reported in the next edition.

One of the favorite activities of many members is the Kentucky Derby party, which will be held on Saturday, May 4, at 5:00 p.m. in the Starlight Ballroom. Gloria Ellis will once again chair this fun activity. Each member attending is asked to bring an appetizer, side dish, or dessert to share and the chicken will be provided for a $2.00 fee. Members wishing to bring a guest may do so for $5.00 per guest. Get ready to share some good times with food, mint juleps, and an exciting race. The sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board in the Clubhouse in the hall near the pub. Hats are not required, but are encouraged.

As always, singles are wel-come to attend a meeting before deciding if they would like to join the Good Timers. The next meet-ing will be held at 5:00 p.m. on May 7 in the clubhouse. For ad-ditional information contact Pat Clemens, Membership Chairper-son (567-0716), or President Peg McTernan (543-3114).

Yes, flowers are with us in joy and sadness, but more important-ly, mothers are with us ALWAYS. Whether in body or in spirit, a mothers love is unlike any other. In addition to wishing my special mother a very Happy Mothers Day, I wish all the special mothers in Del Tura the same. May your lives be filled with wonderful ex-periences, special memories, and, of course, beautiful flowers.

On a bittersweet note, after 15 years, we are leaving Del Tura and our many dear friends and ac-quaintances.

Change is constant, so all forms of communication will change as of April 15, 2013. We will be moving to Shell Point (CCRC) and our new address is 1711 Junonia Court, Fort Myers, Fl 33908. Please note e-mail ad-dress change as well.

Thank YouWe want to offer a huge thank

you to all our friends who have been so loving, generous and sup-portive during Bills illness and after his passing on March 16. Your prayers, kind words, hugs, phone calls and cards all serve as reminders of how lucky we are to live in such a great com-munity with so many caring and thoughtful friends. Extra special thanks go to the Del Tura HOA Bereavement Committee mem-bers and Paul Dissington, Fred Lane and Dave Jacobs, as well as our friends who prepared food and did so much to make Bills celebration of life a fitting and fun memorial.

Bill had a wonderful life. We are thankful for that and appre-ciative of all our terrific friends. Your constant support has made, and continues to make, a very dif-ficult time much easier. Thanks again to you all.

Flo, Brad, Tracy and Steve Hammond

A Farewell NoteIt is with bitter sweetness that

we must bid Del Tura goodbye. Steve and I have sold our home and will be moving to Timber Pines, Springhill, FL. We have reached that age where we want to be closer to our daughter and grandchildren. The past thirteen years in Del Tura have been won-derful.

We have met so many won-derful people and made so many friendships.

I would be remiss if I didnt thank all those who made our lives so special. The Womens Nine and Eighteen-Holers were wonderful to me. When I started playing golf, I didnt even know how to hold a club. Your pa-tience, knowledge and laughter made me love the game. As your tournament chairman for three years, I came up with some cra-zy games. You even put up with playing the game, Lets Trade. (I had to promise never to sched-ule it again.)

My three years on the Board of Directors especially the last two as your president will always be special to me. I was truly blessed to work with Direc-tors and Committee mem-

bers who loved Del Tura as much as I did.

We worked hard but laughed a lot. Tuesdays at Coffee I met so many residents, shared ideas and best of all----made new friends. I learned so much from all of you. You became family. You shared my journey with breast cancer and made me caps to cover my bald head. You brought me soup and made me smile. You even laughed at my jokes. I will for-ever carry these memories in my heart.

Its time for Steve, J.D. Cat, Felony Cat and I to begin a new journey. I am keeping the same e-mail, so please drop me a line and keep me updated on all the activities and events. J.D. and I will stay on our diets, (Steve has already lost 23 lbs) and Ill send you progress reports.

So for now, May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind always be at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

By Susan Savitt Dear Del Turians, The Entertainment Commit-tee applauds each and every one of you who played a role in mak-ing the 2012-13 season of shows and dances presented at Del Tura a success. First, thanks go to the HOA Board for their sponsorship of the shows and dances. Cheers to the Board liaison to the En-tertainment Committee, Helene Glasson, for her suggestions and sharing of pertinent information and her organizational skills, and to Board member Ron Raming for his time and expertise in making tickets, flyers, and promotions on the Del Tura website. Accolades as well to Barbara Boyd who as-sisted with the preparation of many of the flyers. We also send bravos to Doris Meyer to let her know how much we appreciate her efforts and support demon-strated by placing the shows and dances information prominently in each edition of The Tower. There would be no show without the sound and light experts who help bring our shows and dances to life. Thank you Dave Jacobs, Charlie Note, Fred Hall, Judy Ja-cobs, Jim Stenzel, Peggy Note, and Doris Meyer. Setting is an-other key factor essential to the success of our shows and dances. Ron Bell makes sure the Starlight Ballroom is set up perfectly for each event. You have our ap-preciation, Ron. We give gold star awards to Ginnie and Gerry

Benjamins, Dottie Hurst, and Mo MacKinnon who were members of the committee for part of this season. Thank you all for your ef-forts. We miss you. Please plan to attend our two off season dances this summer. On July 13, a dance will be held in the Starlight Ballroom. The specific entertainer(s) will be an-nounced in the near future, and on September 13, Del Tura favor-ite Erich will encourage you to show your stuff. Ticket infor-mation will be provided well in advance of these dates. Cathy has booked an act for New Years Eve that several committee members saw perform at this years Her-ons Glen Showcase. We are very excited about this combination show and dance. Save the date - December 31, 2013. Details will be coming. Thanks to those of you who bought tickets and attended the shows and/or dances this year. We agree with the many entertain-ers who performed in Del Tura who have stated that Del Tura au-diences are THE BEST! We give YOU a standing ovation.

The Beauty of a WomanThe beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure she carries, or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart and the place where love resides.

The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.

It is the caring that she lovingly gives the passion that she shows and the beauty of a woman only grows with the passing of the years.

A Tribute To mothers everywhereDEL TURA

    Happy Mothers Day!

I HAVe A QUeSTION:I thought about how mothers feed their babies

with tiny little spoons and forks, so I wondered what Chinese mothers use toothpicks?

    The Images of Mother

Four years of age: My mommy can do anything!Eight years of age: My mom knows a lot! A whole lot!

Twelve years of age: My mother doesnt know everything!Fourteen years of age: My mother? She wouldnt have a clue.

Sixteen years of age: Mom? Shes so five minutes ago.Eighteen years of age: That old woman? Shes way out of date.

Twenty-five years of age: Well, she might know a little bit about it.Thirty-five years of age: Before we decide, lets get moms opinion.

Forty-five years of age: I wonder what mom would have thought about it?Sixty-five years of age: I wish I could talk it over with mom.

Real MothersReal mothers dont eat quiche; they dont have time to make it.

Real mothers often have sticky floors, filthy ovens and happy kids.Real mothers know that a childs growth is not measured by height or years or grade.

It is marked by the progression of Mommy to Mom to Mother.

    DEL TURA

The ability to talk and commu-nicate with your doctor is impor-tant. Equally important is for the doctor to listen to you as you tell your story of why you made the appointment.

Be honest: It is tempting to say what you think the doctor wants to hear; I quit smoking, but you really did not.

Decide what questions are the most important to ask and write

them down before you go to the doctor.

Stick to the point or problem that brought you to the doc-tor. Give a brief description of the symptom, when it started and how often it happens. What makes it worse or better.

Share your point of view about the doctor visit; if you feel rushed, worried or confused.

Ask for clarification or bring a

second person with you to listen if necessary.

Remember that the doctor may not be able to answer all your questions during a visit. The an-swer may depend on a test result that is pending or you may need to see a specialist.

Be clear and ask for written in-structions on how to take a new medication and any side effects of a new medication.

    Talking to Your Doctor

Physical therapy is an impor-tant part of the treatment process during the different stages of MS. During the initial evaluation, the therapist will determine if there are any limitations with skin sen-sation, muscle strength and over-all function.

As the disease progresses, acute attacks are likely to oc-cur and the patient may need to be hospitalized. In such cases, a physical therapist will work closely with physicians and other specialists in the healthcare team to complement their efforts and to ensure quick recovery for the patient.

MS can also present as a slow, progressive condition that relaps-es a number of times and seems to go away. Dont be fooled, because it can cause severe limi-tations over time.

In some situations, the side-ef-fects are minimal and daily life is

not impaired. Each persons pro-gression is different. Your physi-cal therapist will always assess the most important functional problems affecting you and will address those needs in a compre-hensive, customized treatment program.

Correction of posture and im-proved trunk control Patients with MS are at risk of falling, so physical therapy is aimed at con-trolling posture and balance to minimize the risk of falls.

Increasing functional indepen-dence with walking aids To im-prove independence and move-ment, a physical therapist may prescribe aids including walkers, canes, and custom made foot orthoses (supports). Conditions such as foot drop and loss of sen-sation in the lower extremities may warrant the use of additional orthoses.

    Enhancing mobility Mobil-

ity is an important prerequisite to patient independence. Joint and muscle stiffness (especially in the legs) can be corrected with stretching exercises. Stiffness in the neck muscles can affect neck and head posture and control, which can also be corrected with supports and exercise.

Restoration of muscle tone - Increased tone (hypertonia) or decreased muscle tone (hypoto-nia) is a result of the impact of MS on the nerves. A physical therapist may use manual tech-niques to improve joint sensation and restore normal muscle tone.

Physical therapists play an important role in the manage-ment of patients with MS and several other conditions affecting the nerves, muscles, bones, and joints.

    DEL TURA

    By Jay Flanagan

As spring makes its turn to-ward summer in southwest Florida and those who spend just half a year here in Del Tura are now leaving for the golf courses emerging from the snow up north, most of the scheduled golf activities sponsored by the MGA have been completed. The final scheduled champion-ship, the Jack and Jill or what is at times known as the divorce open, took place on March 26 and March 27 on the West and South courses. After the first day 15 couples were under par in the best ball format with Jean

and Joe Furlong leading the pa-rade with an 8 under 52. They were followed by Nancy Collins/Tony Oliver and Maria and Don Soper at 54. Three more teams (Jane Glancy/Les Stratton, Molly Brown/Gary Perkins, Nancy and Steve Davy) all stood at 6 under 55.

The second day format con-sisted of each team member playing their own ball with 100% handicap determining the team score. Judy Greenstreet and Lar-ry Brown were able to tour the course at 116 for a final score of 173 to claim the 2013 champion-ship. Liz and Jay Flanagan had a 114 for the final round and end-

ed up in the runner-up position at 174. Glancy/Stratton (120), Brown/Perkins (120) and Linda and Jerry Beiermann (118) all totaled 175 to complete the top five listing. Twenty-three of the original 25 couples completed the tourney despite the unusually cool weather.

The MGA continues to have their Wednesday morning com-petition at 8:00 a.m. for the 18-holers and 8:30 a.m. for the 9-hole group. Skin games also take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday for those members interested.
