12TH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME June 19th, 2016
TODAY’S GOSPEL TELLS US . . .
Luke 9:18-24 hat the disciples answer as the general perception about who Jesus is—John, Elijah, a prophet—is in sharp contrast to Peter’s confession of Jesus as “The Christ of God.” What Peter doesn’t know at this point, however, is that the Messiah is One who must suffer, be rejected, be killed, and be raised up. What Peter also doesn’t know is that Jesus’ revelation about his identity is a direct challenge to the identity of the disciples; to follow Jesus is to deny oneself and take up the cross daily. The dare of the gospel is to answer the question of who is Jesus and who are his followers. How do we choose to answer this question?
St. Anthony Parish Prayer for the Week
Lord... baptized, we put on Christ. We are clothed in him. We come to life in his brilliance, belonging to him, descended from him, fulfilled again in the promise God has made. Male and female, brown and white Jew or Greek, slave or free, make us one in your name, Jesus the Christ. Amen. —Anne Osdieck

“Clinical labels may describe some aspects of an individual's ‘functioning,’ but they don't tell the whole story. … It's like looking at a
stained-glass window… From the inside…with the sun shining through it, the effect can be brilliant. From inside our family, love illuminates our life with

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! A Prayer for Fathers
Father in heaven, we thank you for the gift of our fathers
for whom we pray and upon whom we now ask you to
shower your blessings. With St. Joseph as their guide,
may they always be ready to be the strength, protectors
and nurturers that we need in our lives. Bless their
children with your grace. May the example of your son
be the foundation upon which their lives are built and
that the Gospel may always be their hope and support.
We ask you, Father God, to protect and bless the
families of St Anthony. Watch over them so that, with
in the strength of your love, its members may enjoy
prosperity, possess the gift of your peace and may we
always bear witness to your glory in the world. Amen.
