Juror-Judge,
Carl Gombert
Carl Gombert was born in Brimfield, Ohio in 1959. He started taking painting lessons at the age of 14 with money he earned delivering newspapers. He completed a BFA in Drawing at the University of Akron and an MFA in Painting at Kent State University. He worked as a stagehand before earning a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Fine Arts at Texas Tech University. He has shown in more than 350 exhibitions across the US and abroad, and his work is in numerous museum and university collections. Since 1993, he has taught painting, drawing, and art history at Maryville College in Tennessee.

Artist Guidelines and Rules For Submissions to the Art Guild’s
12th Annual Judged & Juried Fine Arts Show
The show will run from August 6, 2021, through
September 2, 2021. The opening reception and awards
presentation will be on Friday, August 6, starting at 5:00
p.m. at the Plateau Creative Arts Center, 451 Lakeview
Drive in Fairfield Glade.
Eligible Artists: All artists, 18 and older, are eligible to
enter their original art into this show.
Entry Guidelines: Entries of artwork on paper & canvas,
mixed media, photography, and 3-D artwork (fiber,
glass, metal, wood), jewelry & pottery, are eligible.
Maximum size for hanging artwork: 72” (width +
height, including the frame). Pieces must have full wire
and be ready to hang (no sawtooth hangers). Display
pieces on paper must have glass, Plexiglas, or a
protective coating and must be framed. Canvas pieces
must be framed unless gallery wrapped. Limit one large
artwork – 51”-72” (width + height, including the frame).
Maximum size for 3-dimensional artwork: not to
exceed 36” high by 24” wide & no heavier than 35 lbs.
Prizes: Cash prizes will be awarded for Best of Show
($500.00), 1st Place ($300.00), 2nd Place ($200.00) and
3rd Place ($150.00); additional awards may be available.
Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded at the sole
discretion of the show judge. All selected artworks will
compete for these prizes.
Rulings regarding originality, eligibility of artwork
submitted, and selection of artwork are at the discretion
of the juror. Submitting artists irrevocably accept the
juror’s decision as final and binding upon him/her.
Entry Form & Fees: MEMBERS: $20 per entry, or $50 for
three entries. NON-MEMBERS: $35 per entry, max of
three entries. Add $5.00 to each entry marked Not for
Sale (member & non-member). Fees non-refundable.
ENTRY FORM and FEES MUST BE RECEIVED at the
Plateau Creative Arts Center by Monday, July 19, 2021.
Accepted Artwork: Accepted artwork must be
ORIGINAL to the artist, OWNED by the artist, created
within the last TWO years, and not have been exhibited
in a previous Art Guild judged art show. All works must
be submitted in person at the Plateau Creative Arts
Center (PCAC), 451 Lakeview Drive, Fairfield Glade,
Tennessee (931-707-7249)
Artwork Submission/Delivery Date: Tuesday,
August 3, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Maximum number of show entries is three (3).
Declined Artwork Pickup: Artists will be contacted if
any of their artwork is not selected for the show; those
pieces must be picked up on Thursday, August 5, 2021,
from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
End-of-Show Artwork Pickup: Artwork may be picked
up at the Plateau Creative Arts Center on Thursday,
September 2, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The Art
Guild will not be responsible for artwork left after that
date.
Sales: All sales are subject to 20% (members), 30%
(non-members) commission & Tennessee State sales
tax payable to the Art Guild at Fairfield Glade. A check
will be payable to the artist within two weeks after the
Show. If the artwork is not for sale, indicate with NFS
(Not for Sale) on the Entry Form.
Liabilities: The Art Guild at Fairfield Glade and the
Plateau Creative Arts Center accept no liability for
damage or loss to works of art submitted and/or
selected for this Show. All artists must sign a Photo,
Video & Bio Information Release Form.
