Introduction1. Greet students- re-introduce self if needed.2. Highlight unit topic on the whiteboard, as well as lesson topic.3. Global Village- Hook activity to remind students of diversity of people. Outline a
circle on the whiteboard and tell students that they are going to imagine the world as a village of 100 people. Prompt students from teacher sheet, for example ‘how many people in the village would asian?’ ‘how many people would be unable to read?’ etc.
4. Show Clip- If the village were a hundred people.5. Compare students answer to clip facts and figures.6. Discuss if student predication were similar or not.7. Inquire what students know the definition of affluence. Give definition - abundance
of money, property, and other material goods; riches; wealth.8. Play YOUTUBE Clip- Teenage affluenza is spreading fast’- see what comments
are from students after the video is finishedBody
9. Defining Development (Textbook)- Students read and answer question on page 127-128 (Before Measuring Development section begins).
10. Go through answer and discuss.11.CLIP- ‘7 Billion- How did we get so big so fast?’12.Characteristics of More Developed Countries (MDCs) and Less Developed
Countries (LDCs)- show demographic indicators about developing and developing nations of OHP sheet. Get students to take notes.
13. OHP Sheet- ‘Development’ Students copy definition of development in glossary page.
