Thursday, August 4th, 12:30pm to 2:30pm, Elysian Fields, 3658 VT Route 74, Shoreham, VT 05770 $10 for farmers, $20 all others. Integrating Irrigation into your Grazing System. Elysian Fields has been an organic certified dairy since 1998, where they currently manage over 200 cows on pasture. At this workshop we will be looking at how they are integrat-ing a traveling gun irrigation system into their grazing program. We will be discussing impacts of installing an irriga-tion system and opportunities to maximize yields from pasture by increasing dry matter and number of rotations. Tuesday, August 16th, 10:30am to 2:30pm, Franklin Farm, 4708 Weatherhead Hollow Rd, Guilford, VT 05301 $20 for farmers, $30 all others. Includes lunch from NOFA-VT Pizza Oven. Calf Care, Herd Health, and Farm Management with Dr. Guy Jodarski. We will spend the morning at Frank-lin Farm with Dr. Guy Jodarski, Organic Valley’s Staff Veterinarian, discussing calf care, heifer raising, group hous-ing, outdoor access, grazing management, impacts of young stock management on labor efficiency and performance. After lunch, we will be doing a farm tour to discuss a number of topics including the Franklin’s participation in the UVM supplementation study and UNH carbon study as well as nutrient and pasture management on the farm. Wednesday, August 17th, 10:30am to 2:30pm, Bitter Sweet Valley Farm, 3050 Dodd Road, Enosburg, VT 05450 $20 for farmers, $30 all others. Includes lunch from NOFA-VT Pizza Oven. Calf Care, Herd Health, and Farm Management with Dr. Guy Jodarski. We will spend the morning at Bitter Sweet Valley Farm with Dr. Guy Jodarski, Organic Valley’s Staff Veterinarian, discussing calf care, heifer raising, group housing, outdoor access, grazing management, impacts of young stock management on labor efficiency and performance. After lunch, we will be doing a farm tour to discuss a number of topics including nutrition, grazing, and nutrient management. Thursday, September 8th, 12:30pm to 2:30pm, Deberville Dairy, 73 Fairground Road, Washington, VT 05675 $10 for farmers, $20 all others. Organic Dairy—Infrastructure and Pasture Management. The Deberville Dairy has been a certified organic farm since 2006, and 100% grass-fed for the past two years. We will be looking at their infrastructure including their Iowa low cost/high efficiency milking parlor, bedded pack barn, calf group housing and bird feeders. We will also be discussing their 100% grass-fed system including pasture management, use of mineral and apple cider vinegar, and their strategies for increasing butterfat.
