The grade of Senior Member provides recognition at CEng level for those candidates who havesubstantial welding/joining knowledge, understanding and experience demonstrable by arecognised welding/joining qualification, published work or documentary evidence. It is therefore agrade for the welding/joining experts.
Criteria
Applicants must meet all the requirements to qualify for admission to this grade.
1. Engineering Education
Applicants are expected to hold one of the following:
UK accredited Bachelors or honours degree in engineering or technology
Higher National Certificate or Diploma in Engineering plus an MSc in an approved
relevant subject Non-accredited or overseas degree approved by the Membership Committee via an
individual route assessment
Open University Honours degree with a technology profile approved for IEng/CEng
Applicants with another qualification or combination of qualifications may be reviewed andassessed on a case by case basis by the Membership, Education and Registration Committee.
Note: Candidates who also wish to be considered for CEng but do not meet the EngineeringCouncil requirements to qualifications (see http://www.engc.org.uk/) will be required to follow theIndividual Route
2. Further Requirements
Applicants must have acquired a substantial level of knowledge of welding joining technology.This may be evidenced by one of the following:
a. Postgraduate course in welding engineering (e.g. Diploma in Welding Engineering)b. MSc in Welding or related technologyc. A compendium of documentary evidenced. Original published work or thesis
Applicants must have had responsible experience of a technical or scientific nature in relationto the development or application of welding/joining or one of the allied technologies for aminimum of 2 years. This experience must normally be gained after obtaining the academicqualification.
Applicants must have held a position of responsibility at Chartered Engineer level orequivalent relevant to welding, joining or an allied technology for a minimum of 5 years.
Applicants must maintain and enhance competence through documented ContinuousProfessional Development (CPD). Applicants must keep up-to-date development plans andrecords of CPD.
Assessment
Membership, Education and Registration Committee will review all application documentation andapplicants must satisfy the aims of the Professional Review Interview procedure. This interview is arequirement for all applicants seeking registration with Engineering Council. In the case of applicants
seeking membership without registration, it shall be at the discretion of the Membership, Educationand Registration Committee whether a Professional Review Interview will be required.
