Courtroom Terms:• Judge­ controls the court, decides if actions are legal or not, passes judgment

• prosecution­ "the state"­ the authority, this is who is has brought charges against someone

• solicitor­ prosecuting lawyer, lawyer working for the state/county• defendant­ person being accused of a crime, defending themselves against the state

• defense/defender­ lawyer working for the defendant• "court appointed"­ the government gave a lawyer to the defendant because he/she couldn't afford one

• court reporter­ person in the court keeping records of everything that is said/done

• witness­ person called by the prosecution or defense to tell what they know about the case 

• testify­ the act of telling what you know• testimony­ the words spoken by the witness• subpoena­ court document that requires you present yourself or an item to the court
