NPSS Web Site Redesign

Report to AdCom

November 2nd 2013

History

At the last AdCom, $30,000 was voted for a web site re-design. Through teleconferences and face-to-face meetings with our account executive and senior staff at Cisneros Design we have initiated the development of the new web site.

As a reminder, the current web site is based on templates originally created by Cisneros that Dick Kouzes, our webmaster, edits directly for any changes that are needed.

New Design

The new design will have content pulled from a database and the content pulled and displayed can be dependant on, for example, the current date. Thus, rather than keeping the pages edited, only the database needs to have new content added when, for example, a conference goes through the planning and implementation steps. This means that content can have an expiry date and simply not be displayed if it is old.

Details

For technical committees, there will be sections on each of their pages for different aspects of the information they wish to include on the page. If there is no information, then the whole section is omitted from the page automatically.

We are poised to implement and deploy and what follows is the suggestion from Cisneros after they have been through the NPSS site.

Flow Analysis

On the following three slides the Cisneros flow analysis is shown.

Picture cycles between pictures appropriate for each of the headings. Clicking takes one to that page.

We decide the time window around the current date for the conferences listed. For example: current conferences +2/-1 months

Review of outline for Technical Committee pages.

We’re trying to create a consistency among the Technical Committee pages. The outline (attached) shows the fields we will set up. If a TC does not have information to complete a field, the field will not show on their page.

The plan is to give each TC access to their own page. Q: do any of the TCs need help writing or editing their existing copy?

Re: Facebook and Twitter

These social media additions are pending a volunteer(s) to manage. Seeking someone familiar with social media marketing or blogging to serve as the FB and/or Twitter administrator for NPSS.

We are currently drawing from our existing NPSS photo archive for site photography, but would very much appreciate any access or ideas for photos (with permission to use, esp. professionally shot) that we could use throughout the site.
