12 ANGRY MEN : A CASE OF TWELVE DIFFERENT OPINION By Rahul Kumar EE, 3rd year B12089 12 angry men, in first glance look like a movie about a murder of a father which committed by 19 year old boy and 12 jury which were going to give a verdict. In start of the movie, out of 12 jury, 11 gave a verdict of guilty. Let’s think how they reached to that point. In that hearing, prosecution gave many facts first a neighbour who heard father and boy’s fighting, boy said ”I will kill you” and went outside and after sometime neighbour found father murdered. Second fact a lady who saw boy knifed his father through a window. And some other facts like boy did not has an alibi. If anyone hear this facts they are going to say, boy was guilty. But one out of twelve men (jury number #8) gave a verdict of not guilty. He thought just hearing facts and give verdict because of those without thinking other things is not good because somebody life was on line. He tried different statement to show others that there is some possibility of doubts. As movie progressed, I saw some of the jury were influenced by their personality and their experiences. Some of them influenced by facts and how facts were represent before them. Jury number #3 was biased against 19 year old young man because he has fight with his son and they are in bad term. Jury number #10 divides the world into like rich and poor, because young man born in slums he decided that he was guilty. He also said “They don’t need any big real reason to kill someone, either.” This showed that their past experience and personal bias determine their thoughts on the case. Therefore, how a person think and fell inside is reflected in his/her thought, Opinions and behaviour. Jury number # 8 try different statement of doubts. He tried different ways of thinking how it happened, how can be boy is guilty or not, can facts has some misinformation which also effected some other jury slowly-slowly. Some of them know is thinking is that young man may not be the murderer. They also tried different way, Different experiment on the facts. Now some of them were in opinion of not guilty and other was in opinion of guilty. Some of them were getting violent because of their biased opinion. But as time slowly past their opinion also changed some of them were getting doubts by their own facts, some of them understand the gravity of the case, biased opinion changed into unbiased verdict and also some were of them gave not guilty verdict because they wanted that case will end soon.

12 ANGRY MEN : A CASE OF TWELVE DIFFERENT

OPINION

By Rahul Kumar EE, 3rd year

12 angry men, in first glance look like a movie about a murder of a father which

committed by 19 year old boy and 12 jury which were going to give a verdict.

In start of the movie, out of 12 jury, 11 gave a verdict of guilty. Let’s think how they

reached to that point. In that hearing, prosecution gave many facts first a neighbour

who heard father and boy’s fighting, boy said ”I will kill you” and went outside and

after sometime neighbour found father murdered. Second fact a lady who saw boy

knifed his father through a window. And some other facts like boy did not has an

alibi.

If anyone hear this facts they are going to say, boy was guilty.

But one out of twelve men (jury number #8) gave a verdict of not guilty. He thought

just hearing facts and give verdict because of those without thinking other things is

not good because somebody life was on line. He tried different statement to show

others that there is some possibility of doubts.

As movie progressed, I saw some of the jury were influenced by their personality and

their experiences. Some of them influenced by facts and how facts were represent

before them. Jury number #3 was biased against 19 year old young man because he

has fight with his son and they are in bad term. Jury number #10 divides the world

into like rich and poor, because young man born in slums he decided that he was

guilty. He also said “They don’t need any big real reason to kill someone, either.”

This showed that their past experience and personal bias determine their thoughts

on the case. Therefore, how a person think and fell inside is reflected in his/her

thought, Opinions and behaviour.

Jury number # 8 try different statement of doubts. He tried different ways of thinking

how it happened, how can be boy is guilty or not, can facts has some misinformation

which also effected some other jury slowly-slowly. Some of them know is thinking is

that young man may not be the murderer. They also tried different way, Different

experiment on the facts.

Now some of them were in opinion of not guilty and other was in opinion of guilty.

Some of them were getting violent because of their biased opinion. But as time

slowly past their opinion also changed some of them were getting doubts by their

own facts, some of them understand the gravity of the case, biased opinion changed

into unbiased verdict and also some were of them gave not guilty verdict because

they wanted that case will end soon.

But after debate, everyone reach same conclusion that may be young man did not

knifed his father.

Now after seeing this movie, I was impressed how this movie contain serious

presentation of our society. In 12 jury, everyone was from different region,

profession. They were representative of the so called Society. In society there are

some people who thought about others, some are who influenced by others, some

are which only care for themselves. Therefore, how a person think and fell inside is

reflected in his/her thought, Opinions and behaviour.
