They are learning how ask “When is your birthday?” And can answer that same question about themselves—in French. C’est magnifique! Their long awaited trip to Washington, D.C. begins with an early morning departure on May 20. Students will have 4 days of travel, sight-seeing, visits to museums and the Capitol, a dinner cruise down the Potomac, the experience of the Changing of the Guard at Arlington National Cemetery, a walk along the Vietnam Memorial, Sunday Mass at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle… with even more

Bishop McManus to Celebrate Liturgy, Bless Statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Dedicate Garden to the Sisters of the Presentation MAY 16, 2016 — 10:00 AM

Bishop Robert McManus will celebrate Liturgy with our school community on Monday, May 16th at 10:00 AM. Bishop McManus will also consecrate and dedicate a new statue of the Blessed Mother and the garden at the entrance of our school.

The Martin Family—in honor of their mother, Mrs. Ellen DiNardo Feigenbaum—have gifted the statue to St. Bernard’s Elementary School. The Martin Family has had, and continues to have, a strong connection with our school, and we are grateful that they have chosen to include our school community in this gift.

The Martin Family, and our larger school community—including the Class of 2014 and the Cole Family—gifted the garden and the beautiful plantings that surround the statue. This garden will be dedicated to the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Sisters have staffed our school continuously since 1886, educating our students for the past 129 years. We continue to be blessed to this day with the Sisters’ presence on our faculty, staff and School Board.

Saint Bernard’s Elementary School looks forward to the celebration of 50 years in this building on Summer Street. Our current school was blessed and dedicated by the Most Rev. Bernard J. Flanagan on August 31, 1966. The Parish built this school by commitment and pledge of our parishioners to replace the Boys’ and Girls’ Schools which had been in service since the 19th century. We are grateful for their foresight and their sacrifices that provided the facility and grounds, which we enjoy today.

on their complete itinerary. It’s a trip well worth the wait, and an exciting reward for all of the class’s hard work to fundraise. Back late on May 23, there will be just enough time to wrap up their academics. Graduation is on June 8.

Art “The March wind doth blow.” The theme of the younger grades last month was kites in flight. Paper kites with long tails accompanied the kindergarten to the Color Run, watercolors of kites adorn the Art room walls. The older students worked on Mexican Seed Spirits. These images are created by the Otomi to welcome spring and ask the gods for a fruitful harvest.

Music It’s Karaoke for all in Music! Our students

5

have been singing lots of karaoke and becoming very good! Groups of 1 to 4 students sing songs of their own choice to their classmates using live microphones… their enthusiasm is impressive!

Technology Seventh and Eighth graders have produced amazing PowerPoint presentations; soon they will become masters of Excel. Fifth and Sixth graders have been learning how to enter data and write formulas in Excel. Fourth grade is making the most of Word with some very colorful essays. The Third grade has just started to play with PowerPoint. The First and Second graders continue to enjoy the challenges that ABCya.com presents to them, and the Kindergarteners just love abcmouse.com!
