Unfortunately, although we planned to walk to Voyager Park, to join the local community at the commemorative service the rain intervened and we observed a 1 minute silence at school. School Planning 2015 – 2017 Recently at a small school’s Principal’s meeting, the new approach to school planning was presented. The new approach will bring together a number of reforms currently happening in NSW public schools. It will provide greater authority to schools to meet the needs of their local community, to improve the quality of teaching in their school and to improve outcomes for all students. It is highly strategic in nature, focusing on 3 key areas for improvement. It will be determined by the school in consultation with its community. A survey will soon be distributed via the newsletter to gauge parent opinion on what are our 3 key areas for improvement and what should be our strategic directions for the next 3 years. Under One Sky Huskisson Public School will play host to The African Children’s Choir next year in May. The choir will attend our school and lessons will be conducted for the students in one of our classrooms. The students are travelling from the African country of Uganda. Opportunities to billet a student from the choir are available. If you would like to billet a student please see me for details of requirements. Billeting would be a unique cultural experience. The choir will perform at a concert held at Vincentia High School. Adopt a School in Bali Yesterday Sue Jones an ambassador for the program spoke to staff, at their afternoon meeting and to parents at the P&C Meeting. Both staff and parents agreed this is a very worthwhile program to be involved in. We will soon register our school on the program and be allocated a school in Bali that will be our adopted school. During the course of the year we will communicate with our adopted school by sending letters, photographs and other items of interest. This will mostly be work generated in classrooms. Both staff and parents agreed this would be an authentic cultural learning experience. Pedestrian Crossing – Sydney St This week I received a design for the proposed new pedestrian crossing. Council has invited me to make comment on the design by Friday 28 th November. This may bring forward the proposed construction date from the 2016/17 financial year. I would like my comments to reflect the opinions of the school community. If you would like to make comment, please collect a copy of the design from the main office, add your thoughts and return by Friday 21 st November. The P&C will also comment on your behalf. Kindergarten Our third and final orientation session is this Wednesday starting at 9.15am. I’m sure our new recruits for 2015 can’t wait for more fun and adventure at “Big School”. SCHOOL NEWS

P & C NEWS

School dance - can you help? We are organising a family/community school dance in late November and would like to hold a number of raffles to raise funds for our improvement projects around the school. We are also seeking major sponsors. The cost of sponsorship is $250.00 and as part of the package we will promote your business in our community flyers to advertise the event, in our newsletters and on the night to those present. If you own a business or you work with an organisation that may like to donate a prize or be one of four major sponsors then please contact Tracy Warnecke on tel. 0410 304 945 or see Marcelle Smith (Kindy/Year 1 teacher) before or after school.

WEAR ORANGE WEDNESDAY (WOW DAY) Tomorrow 12th November

It is a day of recognition and appreciation where the dedicated work of State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers is celebrated across Australia. The focus of WOW Day is to energise the community to show their support in a very simple but highly visible gesture by wearing the colour orange. This is the colour worn by SES volunteers. There are 40,000 SES volunteers across Australia who each year collectively provide around a million hours of their time to help communities in times of natural disasters and emergencies. These dedicated people are on call to respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. SES volunteers have a passion for helping people in the worst of weather and at the hardest of times, helping with storm and flood operations and other rescue activities. On WOW Day, the simple concept of wearing orange will show your support of the amazing SES volunteers across Australia and will show that they are valued by the communities they support and keep safe.

YEAR 6 MINIFETE This year the Yr 6 Minifete will be held on Wednesday 26th November (Week 8). This will be a mufti day and will cost $3. This also covers activities and a spider drink. Yr 6 will start coming around to classrooms from tomorrow and collecting money.

HEAD LICE have been reported in the school. Please

check your child and treat if necessary.
