S tudents should be using Khan Academy on a weekly basis . Students that link their College Board account to Khan Academy received individualized lessons based on PSAT 7 SAT results. On average, 20 hours or more leads to an average SAT increase of 115 points. A BIG THANK YOU to our West Boca High business partners for pouring their expertise, ideas and skills into our students! Congratulations to our Debate-A-Bulls for representing West Boca this past weekend at the Florida Blue Key Speech and Debate Tournament at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Our bulls competed among over 1200 other students representing over 115 schools from 15 different states. Meetings are every Wednesday after school in 12-207.

West Boca is now the coolest school in all Palm Beach County! We now have Brightcasters! BrightCasters is committed to bringing mindfulness activities into classrooms and organizations across the globe. Mindfulness can help enrich our lives by bringing awareness and caring into everything we do.This club helps you learn more about yourself and gives you the tools to manage the stresses of modern life. Brightcasters spreads positivity with activities like breathing and relaxation, vision boards, and connecting with friends in a meaningful way. _________GENERAL INFORMATION________

This week and next, the West Boca Drama Department will present the play I NEVER SAW ANOTHER BUTTERFLY! This is poignent production on the Holocaust Gettoe Terezine, and the children that passed through there. The production has over 55 students in the cast and crew who would be so excited to see their teachers there. The show plays November 8, 9, 15,16 at 8:00 pm, and November 10 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $16.00. Student tickets are only $10.00 for all shows. All faculty and staff receive two free tickets to any show. If you would like tickets, please email boxoffice@wbhsdrama.com with the show datw and name to put the tickets under. They will be at will call in the lobby. _______________ TESTING ______________ AICE TESTING: Letters regarding accommodations for AICE testing were sent out to students.

______________ GUIDANCE______________ The ASVAB will be administered on November 21st at 7:30 am. Students must sign-up in the white binder in guidance. It is open to 10th, 11th and 12th grade students. Passes will be distributed prior to the test date. The ASVAB can help students identify possible career paths based on their aptitude. The test is a complete career planning program. Students are given the test at no cost or commitment to military service. The school day ASVAB also provides an interest assessment and planning tools to help young adults explore career field entry requirements and various career paths, both military and civilian. Parents, please check SIS weekly for updates on your student’s grades. If there is an issue or question regarding a grade, please contact the teacher directly.

Grad Coach: Jason Cohen This year, at West Boca High, we are expanding the mental health services to include support groups for students. We are starting with four groups, supporting students who have a serious illness in the family, are grieving, are struggling with anxiety, and help with anger management. These groups are voluntary and fairly informal. Attached is the flyer with the schedule for the groups. We will meet at lunch time in the Calaloo Cafe. For more information, contact Ms Townsend.

The next Students Demand Action meeting will be TUESDAY November 12 during lunch in 6201. Attention to all students in the creative writing club, The Lit Mag Bulls, is holding a draft meeting during lunch in Mrs. Horn's room, 5-206, on Tuesday, November 12th.

Attention all Key Club Members: Please be sure to continue collecting donations for Unicef. You may still pick up donation boxes from Mrs. Whittaker, and all donations are due by our next meeting on Tuesday, November 12th. Also, please sign up for the Walk to End Alzheimers which will be at Mizner Park on Sunday, November 10th on our google classroom site with the links provided and in Mr. Whittaker's room 5-203. SGA is selling Jamba Juice discount cards good for 6 buy one get one free smoothies. The cards are $10 and can be purchased in the media center or through an SGA representative until the end of November.

SGA is hosting their Throw and Catch Tournamenton November 21st at 6pm in the gym. If you are interested in playing you need to create a team of 6 and turn in your teams $30 tournament fee by Nov. 18. If you have any questions please feel free to see Ms. Steel in room 5107. This is a super fun event and if you have never participated or come to watch it you are going to see some awesome competitive spirit.

SGA is selling long sleeve dri-fit shirts for $20 and white short sleeve shirts for $5. Come and see Ms. Steel in room 5107 if you are interested in purchasing them or have any questions.

 

__________YEARBOOK/NEWSPAPER_________ The newspaper is available online at http://wbhsbullseye.com/ Yearbooks are currently $100 on cashless schools and in 6204. Prices will increase to $120 after winter break. The new date for the senior panoramic is January 31, 2020. The pictures will start at 8:00 am.

____________MEDIA CENTER_____________   Any sophomores, juniors and seniors that need IDs, please stop by the media center. Freshmen, you will take your IDs with your English classes. The makerspace will be open every Monday during lunch in room 4104 off of the media center. All are welcome to attend and our first activities will be 3D printing and soldering. See you there!

_______________SENIORS_______________   The nomination process for Pathfinders has begun. Please pick up the information packet in guidance. Students may self-nominate for up to three of the 18 categories. Your odds are stronger if you plan to major in that field. Interested seniors should create a packet demonstrating why they are the best nominee for that category. Your packet must contain all the elements outlined in the letter: Cover sheet Resume Letter of Recommendation from a teacher Paragraph describing your passion for, qualification in and future goals with regard to the category. Sign up in guidance with Ms. Lorie. She will have the college visit binder. 2. See your school counselor to get a pass to attend the presentation. 3. Take a picture of your pass. A second pass will not be issued if lost and students will not be able to attend without a pass. 4. The last day to sign up for the presentations is the day before the college visit. Students cannot sign up the day of the presentation and will not be able to attend the presentation. Presentations are scheduled to be no longer than one hour. All students are to report back to their class after that presentation has concluded.

___________SAC MEETINGS_____________ The 2019-2020 School Advisory Committee (SAC) will meet on the dates listed below from 6-8 PM in the media center. SAC members are an integral part of our school's community and everyone is invited to attend these meetings.
