Jesus came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of land that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there. Jesus, tired from his journey, sat down there at the well. It was about noon. A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” His disciples had gone into the town to buy food. The Samaritan woman said to him, “How can you, a Jew, ask me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?” For Jews use nothing in common with Samaritans. Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” The woman said to him, “Sir, you do not even have a bucket and the cistern is deep; where then can you get this living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us this cistern and drank from it himself with his children and his flocks?” Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again; but whoever drinks the water I shall give will never thirst; the water I shall give will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I may not be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water... I can see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain; but you people say that the place to worship is in Jerusalem.” Jesus said to her, “Believe me, woman, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You people worship what you do not understand, we worship what we understand, because salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth; and indeed the Father seeks such people to worship him. God is Spirit, and those who worship him must worship in Spirit and truth.” The woman said to him, “I know that the Messiah is coming, the one called the Christ; when he comes, he will tell us everything.” Jesus said to her, “I am he, the one speaking with you.”... Many of the Samaritans of that town began to believe in him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me everything I have done.” When the Samaritans came to him, they invited him to stay with them; and he stayed there two days. Many more began to believe in him because of his work, and they said to the woman, “ We no longer believe because of your word; for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the savior of the world.”

Chapter 4 of John’s Gospel offers us another example of the newness and freshness of Jesus’ life and message. Chapters 1 through 3 narrated the miracle at Cana, the purification of the Temple and the visit of Nicodemus in the middle of the night. Today, we read the powerful barrier-breaker encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman. Samaritan women were considered by Jews ritually impure, and therefore, Jews were forbidden to drink from any cup they had handled. Jesus initiated the conversation asking for some water, and eventually revealed to the astonished woman that he was the Christ who was to come. The woman became a missionary, described almost in the same words as the disciples are in Jesus’ prayer (17:20).

En aquel tiempo, llegó Jesús a un pueblo de Samaria llamado Sicar, en la tierra que el patriarca Jacob había dado a su hijo José. Allí se encuentra el pozo de Jacob. Jesús, cansado por la caminata, se sentó sin más, al borde del pozo. Era cerca del mediodía. Una mujer samaritana llegó para sacar agua, y Jesús le dijo: “Dame de beber”. En ese momento se habían ido sus discípulos al pueblo a hacer compras. La samaritana le dijo: “Cómo tú que eres judío, me pides de beber a mí, que soy una mujer samaritana?” (hay que saber que los judíos no se comunican con los samaritanos). Jesús le contestó: “Si conocieras lo que Dios te quiere dar, y quién es el que te pide de beber, tú misma me pedirías a mí, y yo te daría agua viva”. Ella le dijo: “Señor, no tienes con qué sacar agua y este pozo es profundo, ¿dónde vas a conseguir esa agua viva? ¿Eres, acaso, más poderoso que nuestro antepasado Jacob, que nos dio este pozo, del cual bebió él, su familia y sus animales?” Jesús le contestó: “El que bebe de esta agua, vuelve a tener sed, pero el que beba del agua que yo le daré, no volverá a tener sed. Porque el agua que yo le daré se hará en él manantial de agua que brotará para vida eterna”. La mujer le dijo: “Señor, dame de esa agua, para que no sufra más sed, ni tenga que volver aquí a sacarla... veo que eres profeta. Nuestros padres siempre vinieron a este cerro para adorar a Dios y ustedes los judíos, ¿no dicen que hay que adorar en Jerusalén?” Jesús le dijo: “Créeme, mujer, que ha llegado la hora en que ustedes, ni en este cerro, ni tampoco en Jerusalén, adorarán al Padre. Ustedes samaritanos, adoran lo que no conocen, mientras que nosotros los judíos conocemos lo que adoramos: porque la salvación viene de los judíos. Pero llega la hora, y ya estamos en ella, en la que los verdaderos adoradores adorarán al Padre en Espíritu y en Verdad. Porque ésos son los adoradores que busca el Padre. Dios es Espíritu y los que lo adoran deben adorarlo en Espíritu y en Verdad”. La mujer contestó: “Yo sé que el Cristo está por venir. Cuando él venga nos aclarará todo”. Jesús le dijo: “Ese soy yo, el que habla contigo”... En este pueblo muchos samaritanos creyeron en él y le pidieron que se quedara con ellos. Y se estuvo allí dos días. Y en el pueblo mucha más gente creyó en él al oír su palabra. Y le decían a la mujer: “Ya no creemos por lo que tú contaste. Nosotros mismos lo hemos oído y estamos convencidos de que éste es verdaderamente el Salvador del mundo”.

El capítulo 4 del Evangelio de Juan nos ofrece otro ejemplo de lo novedoso de la vida y el mensaje de Jesús. Los capítulos del 1 al 3 narran el milagro de Caná, la purificación del Templo y la visita de Nicodemo en medio de la noche. Hoy leemos sobre el poderoso encuentro, demoledor de barreras, entre Jesús y la Samaritana. Las mujeres samaritanas estaban consideradas por los judíos impuras, y por tanto, a los judíos se les prohibía tomar de ninguna vasija que ellas tocaran. Jesús inició la conversación pidiendo agua, y después le reveló a la mujer atónita que él era el Cristo que debía venir. La mujer se convirtió en una misionera, descrita casi en las mismas palabras en que Jesús describe a los discípulos en su oración sacerdotal. (17,20)

Guidelines to help prevent spread of

coronavirus Following the guidelines of Archbishop of Miami, Most Rev. Thomas Wenski, our Parish, Our Lady of Guadalupe offers the following norms that will take effect in our Parish in order to help prevent the spread of contagion. The same precautions taken for the flu are also to be employed to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Because we now have 2 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the state of Florida (http://www.floridahealth.gov/diseases-and-conditions/COVID-19/), the following 9 practices are suggested within our Parish territory. 1. Temporary suspension of the minor chalices used

for the distribution of the Precious Blood. 2. Temporary suspension of the communal Sign of

Peace (kissing or shaking of hands). 3. Not to hold hands during the recitation/chanting of

the Our Father. 4. Temporary suspension of the greeting before Mass

(if your parish has this practice). 5. Emptying the holy water fonts at the church doors. 6. Use of anti-bacterial soap by the Extraordinary

Ministers of Holy Communion before and after distribution of the Holy Communion.

7. Reminding parishioners that if they feel unwell or have flu like symptoms they are encouraged to stay home and join us through our YouTube Chanel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8agYsxUsZQY6JcMrqWTSAQ/videos 8. The celebrant is to use discretion if he shakes hands

while greeting parishioners before or after the Mass. 9. It is still left to the discretion of the communicant how they wish to receive the Host, nonetheless we recommend that in Our Parish the Holy Communion be received in the hand and consumed in front of the Priest or Minister.

propagación del coronavirus

Siguiendo las pautas del Señor Arzobispo de Miami, Mons.

Thomas Wenski, la Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe ofrece las siguientes normas que entraran en efecto en nuestra parroquia para ayudar a prevenir la propagación de un posible contagio. Las mismas precauciones que se toman para prevenir la influenza también deben de emplearse para prevenir la propagación del coronavirus. Debido a que ahora tenemos dos (2) casos confirmados de coronavirus (http://www.floridahealth.gov/diseases-and-conditions/COVID-19/) en el estado de la Florida, se sugiere las siguiente 9 practicas: 1. Suspensión temporal de la distribución de la Preciosa

Sangre a los fieles en aquellas parroquias en la que es costumbre dar la Comunión bajo ambas especies.

2. La suspensión temporal del saludo de la paz (besos o apretones de manos).

3. No tomarse de las manos durante el rezo/canto del Padre Nuestro.

4. La suspensión temporal del saludo antes de la misa (si su parroquia tiene esta práctica).

5. Vaciar las fuentes de agua bendita en las puertas de la iglesia.

6. El uso de jabón antibacterial por los ministros extraordinarios de la Sagrada Comunión antes y después de la distribución de la Sagrada Eucaristía.

7. Recordar a los feligreses que si tienen síntomas similares a los de la gripe quedarse en casa y que los invitamos a unirse a nuestras celebraciones por medio del canal de YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8agYsxUsZQY6JcMrqWTSAQ/videos

8. Queda a discreción del celebrante si saluda a los feligreses antes o después de la misa.

9. Queda a discreción del comulgante como desea recibir la Comunión, aunque en nuestra Parroquia recomendamos recibir la Eucaristía en la mano y consumir la Sagrada Forma frente al Sacerdote o Ministro.
