The department in collaboration with Department of Education, University of Calcutta conducted
a workshop for all B.Ed. colleges for the implementation of the new syllabus in July 2013. In April
2015 a meeting of the Core Committee for School internship of University of Calcutta was held in
Loreto College and the Head of Dept. of B.Ed. was an appointed member of the Committee for
implementation of the New B.Ed. 2year course. In February 2019 a two day National Seminar on
‘Gender and Identity’ was organised by the department in collaboration with Department of
Education, University of Calcutta.
Is there a departmental performance-appraisal for the faculty?
The institution follows the faculty appraisal process through student appraisal. Students fill
in a Teacher Appraisal Survey every year. These appraisals provide feedback to each
faculty member. The appraisal has always been given to the teacher by the Principal and
the student appraisal of the teacher’s performance is analysed. The Principal discusses the
appraisal with her thus leading to self-initiated improvement. The Principal and Head of
Department are available for each teacher and student for any help required.
Feedback –formal and informal from students is assessed and validated through dialogue
with respective relevant persons. This is communicated by the Head of Department to the
Principal and teachers and measures are taken as necessary. Barriers or problems are
addressed personally for all.
The college has a process for Grievance Redressal. Warm relations exist between staff and
students and the availability of the Principal and Head of Department ensures that any
potential faculty problems or student difficulties are solved through personal interaction.
