Transcript of 11.3 The War at Home. War Economy The War Industries Board had many factories convert to...
War Economy• The War Industries Board had many factories
convert to manufacturing war equipment, rather than regular products– Wages increased, but so did prices for food, etc.– People willingly sacrificed eating certain foods to
save them for the soldiers
War Economy• Most of the war was paid for through selling
“war bonds”– Ex. You buy one now for $100, govt. pays you
back $110 later (when it can afford to)
• The Committee on Public Information (CPI) created propaganda to convince people to help with the war.
American Experiences• Immigrants, esp. German-
Americans, faced discrimination and suspicion
• Espionage and Sedition Acts made speaking out against the govt. against the law– Targeted socialists and labor
leaders
American Experiences
• African-Americans continued the Great Migration into northern cities looking for industrial jobs
