Suggestion:Partnering with Foreign Universities to conduct R&D in Mongolia
MARKET MONGOLIA AS A REGIONAL CENTER FOR SCIENTIFIC AND EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH
![Page 4: 11.16-17.2015, PRESENTATION, Mongolia as a destination for Scientific Research & Development, Kevin Trzcinski](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022022411/58e95dbc1a28abb45f8b536f/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
R&D Investment goes to both Public and Private Universities
WHAT TO DO
- Research the existing, relevant technologies that have been researched and not yet commercialized
(These are off the shelf, ready to go)
- Pursue a relationship with the universities to co-develop or conduct further research of the technologies in Mongolia
(The foreign universities are motivated to establish international relations, and will be willing to extend favorable terms)
- Clearly understand the difference between INVENTION & INNOVATION. Pursue Innovation.

Mongolia advantages
- Low cost of operations
- Highly Educated and Articulate Scientists
- Plentiful Resources (Land, Wind, Water, Minerals, Livestock, etc.)
- Challenging environment – plenty of problems to solve
“If it works in Mongolia, it will work ANYWHERE”

Mongolia dis advantages
- Getting supplies into Mongolia, logistics
- Extortion at Customs
- Challenging living environment
- $100,000 per investor requirement

Success Story #1High Temperature Solar Thermal Research in Mongolia
On a per tube basis, one tube will displace 64 kg of coal and save 182 kg of C02 emissions per year.
This demo system has 12 XCPC tubes, generates approximately 6~8Kw heat daily, will save approximately
768kg of coal , and 2,184kg of C02 emissions.
Special Thanks to Dr. Roland Winston, Inventor & IP Owner, and Mr. Robert Angle

Achievements & new research conducted in Mongolia
Demonstrated heat storage
2 tests, each with different heat storage medium
Heat Transfer Fluid Testing
2 tests, each with different fluids
System integration with two loops, one external loop and one internal loop connected by a heat exchanger (this allows us to generate the heat during the day, transfer the heat indoors, put the heat into storage, and then pump the heat out of storage and use it at night)

Research has led to Investment
- Raised funding for 15kw system, and invested into a cheese factory in Gachuruut.
60% of cheese factory costs go to electricity and energy usage
Result
Increased production, longer operating months per year, double staff from 5 to 10 people, creating an export market for Cheese made in Mongolia

Success Story #2 STANFORD UNIVERSITY – STANFORD EMERGENCY MEDICINE INTERNATIONAL
- Conducted a two part, online and in person training course for the latest Emergency Medicine Practices for existing EMT’s in Mongolia
- over 40 doctors enrolled and graduated from this 6 month program, with CME credits from the GOM Ministry of Health
- Secured private sector involvement and support from SOS Medica.
- Conducted 2 day training course in Ulaanbaatar for over 300 doctors, nurses, and students in treating trauma, and critical injuries.
GOAL – Create an ongoing program for Stanford in Mongolia, with UB becoming a \regional hub for Emergency Medicine Training
SPECIAL THANKS TO DR. S.V. Mahadevan for his leadership on this project
