...will labour, struggle and fail. But if we face them in Jesus then we will overcome, for Jesus has “overcome the world.” Paul wrote: “I can do all things THROUGH CHRIST, who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13). In my own strength I may have the ability to pound my fists against the wall of circumstance, but in Jesus, with my God, I can scale it in a leap! (Psalm 18:29) On Sunday I heard Tim Jones preach: “Whatever you’re facing, put Jesus in front of it so you see everything by Him.” Whatever we face, let us face it in Jesus, in His strength and in His peace. How do we do this? By enjoying our relationship with Him: spending time in His Word, talking to Him, listening to Him, making your thought-life revolve around Him.

It‟s only in Jesus that we overcome.

INSPIRE: The Rich Widow

I love the story in Mark 12:41-44 about the widow who came to the Temple to give her offering to God. She put in all she had to live on, two lepta. Two lepta made a kodrantes, a Roman copper coin worth about 1/64th of a denarius, which was a day's wage for a labourer. This woman was dirt poor. Nevertheless, she made a great impression on Jesus as she gave her offering. People far richer than her threw in larger amounts, but none gave as much as she did. Why? Because the measure of her giving was much greater than anybody else‟s. Millionaires put £500 in an offering; they give out of their wealth. Poor people give a few pounds; but the

By Roger Aubrey

measure of their giving is often greater than the millionaires. To be at the same measure the millionaire would have to give hundreds of thousands of pounds.

God is not only concerned with the amount we give; he's concerned about our measure of faith and the measure of generosity we use in our giving. What happened to this lady? I can't prove it from the Word, because

she is never mentioned again. But I have a sneaking feeling that she did not remain poor. Why do I say that? Well, Jesus told us, 'Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.'

(Luke 6:38) This law of sowing and reaping must have worked for her; she certainly used a good measure - for her it was really large. Therefore, she must have reaped a pressed down, shaken together and running over blessing, don't you think? In fact, she should be called the rich widow.
