LEARN, SERVE, LEAD, SUCCEED – Our annual
observance of Catholic Schools Week begins in two weeks.
This year, we are celebrating the value Catholic education
provides to young people and its contributions to our
church, our communities and our nation. Please join us for
our Saint Matthew School Open House on Sunday, January
28th from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. For more information call
684-3510 or go to our website address: www.stmatthew-
school.org. Please come and see what we have to offer.
PARISH WOMEN’S RETREAT—“CREATING A
SPIRITUAL LEGAGY” -- sponsored by our Catholic
Daughters Court St. Rita and led by Sisters Karen and Jane,
will be held on Sunday, February 10. It will begin with
10:30 Mass followed by a catered lunch and the retreat at
Harkins Hall. Cost is $10. Participants can sign up in the
Gathering Space (registration deadline February 3);
monies can be paid via the collection basket, parish office,
or at the next February 6 CDA meeting. Note: ALL
women of the parish are invited to attend.
ORGAN RESTORATION UPDATE! It is now time
for Chapter 2 of the Restoration of our 1912 Tellers Pipe
Organ. Since early autumn, organ architect Filip Jakub
Cerny has replaced the organ bellows (lungs), re-voiced
the trumpet and mixture stops, and repaired broken
organ valves. Now begins the work of electrical
engineer Gregory Stager – our own parishioner – who
will dismantle the 33-year old console computer and
install 2 new organ keyboards, 25 new stop tablets, and
a state of the art computer memory system in the
console. In addition, Engineer Stager will connect the
122 keys, 32 pedals, and 25 stops to the existing 750
metal and wooden pipes in the balcony chamber, Wow!
In the words of Richard Merryman who is overseeing
our organ’s restoration, this is all “delicate, tedious and
pain-staking work”.
Therefore, it is estimated that our parish organ will be
silent/out of commission until about March 21—the
first day of Spring! During those weeks, our Baldwin
Grand Piano will be the primary music ministry
instrument for all Masses. Thank you for your patience
with our Organ Restoration Project. Questions can be
addressed to Fr. Jozef or Mr. Richard Merryman.
Let us pray in gratitude for the knowledge and skills of
Mr. Merryman, Mr. Cerny, and Mr. Stager and ask our
God to continue to prosper the work of their hands!
A mid-winter FAMILY GET TOGETHER
SPAGHETTI DINNER will take place on Saturday,
February 9, 6PM, in Harkins Hall. Leave the cooking to
Dave Panasiti & Crew and enjoy the night out with family
and friends! Look for the Sign-Up Envelope in next
weekend’s bulletin so we can determine how many meals
to cook. Cost is $10 per family, $5 individuals, returnable
upon attendance. Reservations will be limited to 160
persons so return your envelope quickly (Gathering Space,
Parish Office, Collection Basket)! Reservation deadline is
February 3.

NO SCRIPT BUT THE SCRIPTURES
"You are my beloved Son;
with you I am well pleased." Luke 3: 22
THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP
AS A WAY OF LIFE
“John answered them all, ‘I baptize you with water; but
he who is mightier than I is coming…he will baptize you
with the Holy Spirit... ’”
Luke 3: 16
The Catholic Catechism states that “Jesus’ immersion
in the water is a sign for all human beings of the need
to die to themselves to do God’s will.” In other words,
as baptized Catholics there is only one gift that we need
to give to Jesus – the gift of ourselves. Surrender
yourself to God, place your trust in Him and allow the
Holy Spirit to work through you for the greater glory of
God.

Stewardship Reflection January 13th “Jesus was led by the Spirit of God to the life of
preaching and service, to the giving of himself in
Sacrifice. Jesus Christ sends that same spirit upon
everyone who is baptized in his name. This is not a Spirit
of timidity of fear, but a bold Spirit of life, joy, and
grace.”

THANK YOU
As our Christmas season ends, I would like to sincerely
thank all of you for your active participation in Christmas
liturgies. Thank you also to all those who helped with
cleaning and decorating of our church, all the musicians,
soloists, choir, readers, ushers, children, altar servers, and
other ministers and volunteers young and old who so
graciously offered their talents and time to make our
Christmas Season enjoyable and spiritually nurturing.
Thank you for all your Christmas cards, presents of
different kinds, wishes and prayers for this joyous time
for thinking of me and my (visiting) mother during these
holy days of Christmas. I am greatly blessed to have
such a thoughtful and caring family here at Saint
Matthew’s.
