Digital Technologies - KeyboardingThis week’s focus is on the “bottom row keys” of the keyboard.

The bottom row keys are the ten letter keys found below the Home Row on a QWERTY keyboard. Thebottom row letter keys include the letters Z, X, C, V, and B keys for the left hand and M, , , . , / , and Nkeys for the right hand.

Remember, it is really important to establish proper keyboarding technique early as it teaches you howto locate and identify letters on the keyboard, which is an important step towards building typingfluency!

Discuss with a parent/carer● What are the additional keys on the bottom row? ● What colour is the ‘bottom’ row?● Why is the keyboard not arranged in alphabetical order? (See booklet for answer.)● Can you type the words: cat, vat, zag, and cafe or mum, num, him, and jump?● Now you know the ‘bottom row’ as well as the ‘home row’ and ‘top row’ letter keys, can you

type your first name and last name e.g. Sally Johnston. Use the ‘space bar’ to insert a ‘blankspace’ or ‘gap’ in between your first name and last name. It is thethumb’s job to press down the space bar.

Maths - Ordinal NumbersIn our maths lesson yesterday we revised ordinal numbers. Ordinal numbers are numbers that tell theposition or order of things.

We use ordinal numbers to describe the position of something in a sequence or the place of somethingin a race. For example:-

The boy is 1st in line. The girl came 3rd in the race.The vase is 2nd from the left.

We also use ordinal numbers to describe calendar dates.For example:-Tuesday 5th September means the 5th day of the month September.Friday 30th October means the 30th day in October.
