The Eleven Principles Of the Naqshbandiyya
A Brief Explanation
Hosh dar dam: Awareness in breathing i.e. one must remain conscious of
God in every breath.
Nazar bar qadam: Gaze on footsteps i.e. to be mindful where one is heading,
is it towards God or the world?
Safar dar watan: to travel within one’s homeland means to view life as a
journey to God.
Khilwat da anjuman: seclusion in company: inwardly remain focused on
God despite being in company of people.
Ya kard: to remember God.
Baz gast: to return to God.
Nighdasht: Wakefulness, to always keep God in sight.
Yaddasht: To be God conscious
Waquf-izamani: Stopping of time
Waquf-I qalbi: Stopping of the heart, not to waver away from God.
Waquf-I a’dadi: Stopping at odd numbers, to pause at odd numbers whilst
remembering God
