Dear Parents PARISH SCHOOL FORUM (PSF) MEETINGS ARE POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, including the meeting originally planned for tonight. FEEDBACK TIME! It was lovely to see so many faces last week which we had not seen for a while. It was also wonderful to see how these students were welcomed back to school by classmates and staff. The noise of play on the playground and chat during lunch somehow made us all feel calmer, more settled and in the right place. The school is a place for students. In these past 2 months, things didnt feel quite right because we didnt really have our students here. Sure, we were in contact on Zoom, through phone calls or emails but nothing beats having your students in front of you ready to learn. This got me thinking…. We have all had different experiences during Covid-19. We have had a variety of highs and lows. We have had breakthroughs and frustration. We would like to gather some of these experiences from you all. It would be fabulous if you could share with us what this time was like. Dont hold back. Give us the truth. We would like to gather all this information together to form part of our school history. It will also help us to know what worked or didnt work. We are inviting you to put your thinking in writing - staff, students and families. Tell us how Covid- 19 affected you; what you learnt about yourself during this time; what were the struggles and disappointments? Tell us the funny moments; the great excitement or the achievements you are proud of. All you need to do is email it to the school email [email protected] Add a photo if you want. Please assist us in giving your feedback! RETURN TO SCHOOL PLAN The return to school plan is being adjusted as we go due to the Premiers announcement this morning. We have a number of families who are now back fulltime from this week. That is okay! We have some families sticking to the plan because that feels safer - that is okay too! Some families have other people to consider in their planning and so they are waiting it out a bit longer - and that is also okay! The plan still looks like this: But it is up to you…. If you need to adjust the plan to better suit you, we are happy to assist. If you want your child/ren all back next week - THAT IS O.K.! Just contact me for a chat. By Tuesday, 9 June, (after the long weekend), we expect all our students will be back all the time. This staggered return has allowed us to check out our protocols, lay low while we wonder about a possible spike and reassure ourselves that we can do this! But, we are happy to have your children here if you feel you want them to return. Our only stipulation is - please tell us your intentions in an email to the school address: [email protected] This is for accountability purposes. NOTE: For those of you who have previously advised you are following the staggered return to school, up to and including Week 5, we will assume you intend to continue with the plan for Week 6 onwards. Likewise, if your children are already attending fulltime, we will also assume that your situation is continuing. We do not require any further written confirmation from you UNLESS your circumstances change. MAY Tues 12 - Fri 22 - NAPLAN Years 3 & 5 - CANCELLED JUNE Wednesday 3 - CANTEEN OPEN Thursday 4 - Junior Joeys begins (confirmed amended start date). Dear Parents

PARISH SCHOOL FORUM (PSF) MEETINGS ARE POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, including the meeting originally planned for tonight.

Meanwhile in news from school: The Prayer Space photo challenge is still going. Send in your photos of your prayer space at home. Refer to Mrs Meyers ’ email and our newsletter last week and see some beautiful spaces later in this newsletter. Our roadworks in Perry Street are progressing well. We should have access to parking this week. The completion of the road surface is now waiting on the availability of equipment. Signage is yet to be installed. We continue this week, to ask you to utilise the car drop off and pick up as parking will still be tricky. One IMPORTANT thing you need to follow please: ALL students should be alighting from and entering the car on the kerb side and no adults should get out of the car in this area. To allow us to have this designated area we MUST follow these rules please.

The Uniform Shop is open on Fridays from 8:30am until 9:30am and then again from 2:30pm until 3:30pm. We understand some of you really need to visit to sort correct sizing but if you just need to order a known size, we would appreciate you just sending the order form (available on our webpage) to the office and John will sort this for you. Please make a note for your items to be left at the office for collection if your child has not yet returned to school. This alleviates the need to enter the school area.

Our Canteen is going to reopen on Wednesday, 3 June, (Week 6). This will mean Emma will be chasing donations of fruit as usual. She will also be grateful for helpers! Obviously this decision is based on safe food handling, social distancing rules for adults in schools and the need to sign in on arrival at school. Drop in visits to the Canteen cannot occur.

We are so grateful to all our families for the way you have respected our changed circumstances. Last week, while it was obviously difficult for many, you did a terrific job of dropping your children off and not entering school. You have all been very supportive of the staff and really grateful of our work. This support has been very much appreciated by staff. Thank you.

I would like to congratulate the staff in their behind the scenes work during these unusual times. They have been participating in a lot of new learning to support students as well as planning for the Learning Conversations and learning around a project we are involved in - The Learning Collaborative with Lyn Sharratt. They have worked incredibly hard while managing the very unusual day to day workload, their own family requirements and just living in a strange new environment. I know many of you have also conveyed your thanks for the support they have given you. Thank you for this - it certainly spurs us on and on.

The format of the Semester 1 Reports is currently being finalised. The preparation for the Learning Conversations (as outlined in last week’s Newsletter), will begin in Week 8. The Learning Conversation meetings themselves, will take place in Weeks 1 and 2 of next Term. We often get asked to hold our Parent / Teacher / Student Conferences twice, to accommodate split families, parents who work away or because the times we offer don’t suit. The new format means the Learning Conversation can only happen once, so we are investigating the possibilities of Zoom to support families with participation in the Learning Conversations.

LITURGY

On Friday students from Stage 3 took our "Travelling Liturgy - In the Father's House" to each Stage group. We sang, danced and shared ways in which we can trust each other as we trust in Jesus. PRAYER SPACE CHALLENGE

RETURNING DEVICES TO SCHOOL As students in Stage 2 and Stage 3, who borrowed a school device, return to school fulltime, they are required to enter via the office with their device, so that it can be checked and marked as returned and in good condition. Please make sure that chargers are returned also. Once checked, students can take their device with them immediately to use in class. Students attending school for a "block" of days will need to have their device at school on those days but do not need to enter through the office. Their devices are to be kept at school overnight if they are attending school the next day (e.g. in Week 5, when S2 and S3 will attend on Wed. and Thur., devices will need to be kept at school overnight on Wednesday and may be taken home again on Thursday afternoon.). Parents are still responsible for devices during this time. Please remind your child to take extra care with their device as they travel to and from school.

HEADLICE

A timely reminder, as students return to school, for parents to PLEASE, REGULARLY CHECK your child’s hair. There have been some cases of headlice reported in Stage One. Please make it a routine to check your child’s hair regularly to help prevent the spread of headlice by early detection and treatment.

MUSICORP Music Lessons As those of you who have been impacted would already be aware, Musicorp have been providing music lessons, during the Covid-19 restrictions, via Zoom. Unfortunately, we are not in a position at this time, to provide the option for these to happen during school time. Your Musicorp tutor should advise you when normal lessons at school can resume.

STAGE 3 NEWS Ava Greensill was the first student to complete our Australian History Webquest challenge. She had to explore a variety of primary and secondary sources to answer questions about the birth of Australia as a nation and our Federal system of governance. Lachie Beare has also shown exceptional research and inquiry skills completing this task. Well done Ava and Lachie.

Stage One settled very quickly back into

their routine last week….and

produced some amazing Autumn

poetry.

More of the fun things and great work which people have been doing at home over recent weeks.
