Lesson (main) aims: - to introduce new words;

- to be able to understand those new words

- to give biographical details

- to buy things in a shop

- to ask and give directions

- to use correctly Past Simple of irregular verbs

- to use English money

- to find out places in towns

Subsidiary aims: - to be able to associate the English terms with the

Romanian terms;

- to practice the work in pairs;

- to read about The Beatles

- to listen people buying things in a shop

- to listen to people giving directions

Skills: speaking, reading, writing, listening

Anticipated language problems: Pupils/students could become a bit noisy

when working in pairs/groups; some of them (the dominant ones) may try to

answer too often and exclude the others. In some cases, pupils may not

understand the task given by the teacher;

Possible solutions: the teacher may ask pupils simultaneously to speak;

He/She may repeat the task in order to be clear for everybody;

Teaching aids: the manual, a handout, pupil’s notebooks, the blackboard;

Modes of interaction: teacher-student, student-student, group-work;

1st Activity

Aim: To familiarize the pupils with the new lesson;

Procedure: First of all pupils are introduced to the new lesson; they are

showed a picture and asked to say what they know about The Beatles? If

they like their music or another kind of it.

Interaction: lockstep

2nd Activity

Aim: To use the manual in order to read about The Beatles

Procedure: As the lesson continues, the teacher asks her pupils to read the

text and find out new words and write it on their notebooks

Interaction: T-Ss;

Materials: manual, blackboard, pupil’s notebooks;

Teacher’s role: controller;

Skills: speaking, listening, writing, reading;

3rd Activity

Aims: To proof the comprehension of the text

Procedure: Ex 2, pag. 49, asks the pupils to correct the notes there were

taken

Skills: writing, speaking, listening, reading;

Class management: whole class activity;

Timing: 5 minutes

4th Activity

Aim: To familiarize with the notions, Past Simple of irregular verbs

Procedure: The pupils are asked about Past Simple Tense. He teacher gives

examples and they try to make compare the situation with the irregular Past

Tense forms from our language

5th Activity

Aims: To be able to use properly the Past Tenses forms of the verbs and

check their answers using the text about Beatles

Procedure: The teacher invites her pupils solve ex. 3, pag. 50 wich asks

some questions and the pupils should be able to answer

6th Activity

Aims: to be able to describe a person

Procedure: The teacher presents them the Hollywood factfile from pag. 50.

At ex.5, pag.50 pupils have to work in pairs. Student B turns to page 121

and follow the intrusctions. Student A ask Student B to complete the factfile

on Hariison Ford. Then answer Student’s B questions. Pupils write it on

their notebooks;

8th Activity

Aims: To make a conversation expressing a wish, buying things in a shop

Procedure: The pupils are asked to read the examples given at ex.8 and

working in pairs they have to make a dialogue buying different things.

Materials: textbook, pupil’s notebooks;

Skills: listening, speaking, writing, reading;

Class management: whole class activity;

Timing: 10 minutes

9th Activity

Aims: To pactice talking about places in town

Procedure: The teacher invites the pupils to talk about what choices they

have regarding their town. What visitors should go and which places worth

visiting. Which are the prices, where is cheapier? A presentation of the town

where they live with few money. Pupils are asked to write on their

notebooks and present it in front of the class.

10th Activity (Homework)

The pupils are asked to write about their favourite star and tell how many

times they have seen it, what souvenirs they have and how much money they

have spent too see them.

11th Activity

Aims: To give information about directions

Procedure: the pupils are invited to read ex.9, page 52 which is about asking

and giving directions. There are a set of lines used in this type of dialogue.

Pupils are asked to write them on their notebooks.

Materials: textbook, blackboard, pupil’s notebooks

Skill: listening, speaking, writing, reading;

Class management: whole class activity, individual work;

Timing: 10minutes

12th Activity

Aims: To ask and give correctly information about directions

Procedure: The pupils are invited to use the map of Liverpool City Centre

for asking information different locations. The pupils must work in pairs.

One of them asks for information and the other gives directions.

Materials: blackboard, pupil’s notebooks

Skill: speaking, writing, reading

Class management: work in pairs

Timing: 10 minutes

13th Activity

Aims: To tlk about places in towns

and make a list with the identified places of the map. They also are asked to

add any other places they can think of.

14th Activity

Aims: to fix the notions just learnt by playing a game

Procedure: The pupils are invited to write down the names of three places

near their school that they can walk to: in two minutes, in five minutes, in

ten minutes. They are not allowed to show their partners their list. They give

directions to the places, and see if their partners can guess what they are.
