    PRIZE WINNING LETTER

CULTURE POLICENo society needs anyone to police its culture. In a

democratic country like India, everyone has the right tolive and eat in his or her own way. The only constraintsare that in doing so you should not be breaking the lawsof the country. And, to keep a check on that, there are theduly elected governments. There is no scope for any otheragency to exist.

STING OPERATIONSCasting couch is not something new and is an open

secret. India TV highlighted in a sensational way what wasalready a known fact. The only aim seems to be increase inTRP ratings. I feel that the media should concentrate onhelping to solve the day-to-day problems of common people, instead of indulging in such sensational scoops. The aimshould be to educate the vulnerable sections of society onhow to avoid situations like casting couch and not to showthe casting couch happening. The priorities need to be setright.

EDUCATIONEinstein said, I never teach my pupils; I only attempt

to provide the conditions in which they can learn. Thisshould be the approach of the government vis--viseducation in India.

CULTURE POLICEThis tendency of a few people taking law into their

own hands to save their culture (as they perceive itto be) should be discouraged. We are a democratic, civilized society. If someone has any problem heor she should approach the relevant forum (likepolice, government, courts) to look into it and redressit.

Those who indulge in violence and rioting in the nameof saving their culture are people with very narrow mind-sets and limited means. If they feel that their violent actswill help in checking the deterioration in the cultural values, they are mistaken. If some one feels that there is any threatto our cultural roots then the way out to check the rot is toeducate people around you and not to indulge in violenceand rioting.
