Presentation Notes
The presentation is structured in the following way First, I would like to re-cap the PTC product strategy from high level down to a more detailed level relating to direct modeling strategy Then I would like to give you an overview of the direct modeling capabilties that we currently have built into Creo And then explain our roadmap for Direct Modeling in Creo Elements/Direct and PTC Creo

That is also reflected in the development strategy for PTC Creo Elements/Direct products. While we continue to support and enhance the Creo Elements/Direct environment according to the roadmap we are focusing our strategic development projects along the two vectors that you see here: We are developing on the PLM side: Focusing on a Workgroup Manager for Modeling and Drafting that can be used as a bridge Focusing on migration tools allowing to bring the data and technology over And ultimately we are focused on outstanding management of Creo data in Windchill so that they are sustained long term That’s the key point here: Our long term vision for Creo Elements/Direct customers really is that combination of Creo and Windchill, it is not Elements/Direct Modeling and Windchill together. That is an intermediate step that we would like you as Creo E/D customer to go through. We recognize the need for that. And of course it is not Creo and Model Manager. It is Creo and Windchill as that strategic direction I told you what we do on the Windchill side, on the Creo side we are focused on: Building out direct modeling capabilities on the PTC Creo platform in general, some in Creo Direct, more in the flexible modeling extension and along with the required data upwards compatibility of Creo Elements/Direct data with as much robustness as possible to allow the continued leverage of the existing Creo Elements/Direct data

Presentation Notes
So, let’s put all of the PTC direct modeling technologies together and add Creo Elements/Direct to the mix. As you know the Creo E/D product family represents a mature, purely direct design environment based on the CoCreate architecture that many customers successfully rely on and that we have many experiences with. And so the idea is to leverage those experiences and build out direct modeling capabilities on the Creo platform and Creo Common Data Model to provide them in the Creo environment that offers parametric and direct modeling with full interoperability between the two modeling paradigms. That is taking more time than we thought, but I am going to show you what progress we made and what we have developed for Creo Direct 3.0 on the next slides. The second aspect that we focus on is data upwards compatibility to ensure PTC Creo Elements/Direct users can continue working with the data that they have created in the past and are continuing to create now when they move to Creo. I am going to elaborate in more detail on that later on.

In addition to building out direct modeling capabilities on the Creo platform we are working on data upwards compatibility. This is the ability to load the existing and future Creo E/D data into Creo and ensure that it can be leveraged. Here you can see the progress that we made starting with the initial Creo releases that already allowed bringing structure and geometry over.

10

Enhanced upward compatibility to Creo 4.0

• Round /Chamfer design intent transfer

• Additional 3D model attributes can be leveraged

• Associative drawing import (2D / 3D)

• Unite-Technology of Creo 4.0 supporting CreoElements/Direct

Presentation Notes
Here the second part of the longer term direct modeling roadmap that shows the Creo Elements/Direct and Creo releases streams in context You see continued support on the E/D side with R&D currently working on the release 20.0 projects that I was talking about. And as for the previous releases, we also plan with aligned releases => Creo Elements/Direct 20.0 in alignment with Creo 4.0 Per our strategy, the development focus lies in the top row to bring more direct modeling capabilities into the Creo Platform in general as well as on the work around broadening the data import capabilities that allow to bring Creo E/D data into that new environment and fully leverage it there. In addition we are enhancing the Windchill integrations with enhancements to the WGM for Modeling and Drafting and are building migration tools to get MM data extracted and loaded into Windchill. There is actually a lighthouse program ongoing with a few pilot customers where we test early versions of the data extraction tools and work closely with those customers to improve the tools before we make them available more broadly.

Presenter
Presentation Notes
So let‘s talk about the product adoption paths for CoCreate customers to get from the Creo Elements/Direct technology stack to the Creo and Windchill technology stack? What are the options: The first option of course is to stay on Creo E/D and to go into the next years continuing to use the environment that you have to day. There is no immediate need to move now or push.. But when you do go from here to here, the first path is a scenario where you go from the current environment with Modeling, Drafting and MM to an environment where you adopt Windchill and use the WGM to connect Modeling and Drafting to Windchill. The WGM is currently available with a set of basic capabilities and there are development projects underway for the next Windchill 11 release to add more capabilities to it. We had been working with customers and partners to define the set of those enhancements that we think make it a viable solution for this intermediate step with a good set of required core PDM/PLM capabilities. Again our final vision is for you to go to a combined Creo and Windchill environment and so we see this option as a step in the process to get to that environment. Now, as I said earlier, the strategy to deliver a Creo Direct with all of the direct modeling capabilities that we have in Elements/Direct is a long way away. It is in fact unrealistic to expect that we would get there in the next few releases. Therefore, if you have broader PLM needs beyond those that the WGM will provide you would need to go to a combined Creo and Windchill environment with Creo Parametric with Flexible Modeling and then Creo Direct to extend that it fulfills your needs. Nevertheless – let me make it clear again that there is no compelling event for you to move away from your current environment. We are continuing to support Modeling, Drafting and Model Manager, there is no sunset date for those products, and So you can of course stay there and continue to work in that environment unless you have the need and want to take advantage of the broader capabilities and process support that a Creo & Windchill environment provides

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Hopefully through today’s presentation and the other content that you have heard about the Creo strategy, you can see that direct modeling remains an important element of our vision for Creo. And because of that PTC plans continued investments into direct modeling in PTC Creo. In addition it is important to us that you understand the commitment we are making to protect your investment. PTC is uniquely positioned to ensure that all of the data, the meta-data associated to the geometry, the relationship between the objects, all of that will be upwards compatible with the future versions of Creo that support those capabilities. We are actually working together with a selected group of customers and partners to get feedback and overall help us along that way. In the meantime, we are also committed to continue to support the capabilities that you have today. We are seeing more and more customers adoption version 19.0 to benefit from the productivity enhancements in there and R&D is working on version 20.0 with the focus on the projects that I showed you. So, in summary we showed you that we are working on 2 things: We are building out the direct modeling capabilities on the Creo platform in a combined way with parametric modeling And we are building a bridge to move your data from the technology stack you are using today to the new one. That applies to the CAD side as well as to the data migration aspects on the data management side with the lighthouse program around the migration tools that I mentioned. Overall I hope this gave you a good overview of our direct modeling related strategy, current capabilities and plans going forward and if you have further questions or want to see more, feel free to join me at the booth.
