ORIOLE FOOTBALL SUFFERS ANOTHER LOSS Late in the first quarter of last Friday’s game against the 6-0, state ranked NE Hamilton Trojans, I couldn’t help myself but look at the clock and think, oh how I wish we could stop right here & savor the moment. Maybe I jinxed them, maybe not. The Trojans were leading 16-7, but the O’s were driving & looking like anything but a 1-5 team. NE Hamilton was on their heels & their coach was already losing his voice. The crowd was into it, the cheerleaders were chanting & it was an atmosphere that can’t be put into words. But... with 1:30 left in the first, an Oriole turnover led to a Trojan touchdown. And just like that, we went from being on the cusp of another score to the defensive unit trying to get a stop. NE Hamilton had their way the rest of the half & took a 54-7 lead into the break. But like the first quarter, the third had its excitement for the O’s. A Trojan fumble gave Zach Scriver & his offense the ball on the Oriole 18. Elias Nissen can run from here to there in a heart beat & that is exactly what he did as he put the O’s back on the board with another 6 points, & with those points came the revival of the crowd. Brian Allsup chipped in his PAT & although it was 54-14, Springville was looking to get back into the game. Points don’t come from good intentions however, & while the guys played hard, they could not stop the Trojans. Springville picked up their third & final score with 11:10 left in the game when Scriver hit Drake Coonrod on a slant pass. Allsup, who was perfect on the night, was good with his third PAT of the evening, & that made it a 60-21 ball game. NE would score once more & the game would end with the Trojans taking a knee & a painful 66-21 win. Nissen led the O’s on both sides of the ball; 118 yards of rushing & 14 tackles. Oriole bigs, Jake Hulett & Tyler Stewart had 13 & 12 tackles of their own. Caleb Anderson got his second interception of the season, the senior has had one in each of the last two gamesthis one happened to be the first of the season thrown by a Trojan QB. The O’s have a week to prepare for their last home game of the yeara match with the 2-6 Raiders of Dunkerton, Iowa. Senior athletes, cheerleaders & band members will be honored, please come out to support the OriolesJV is at 5 & the Varsity action will follow. Caleb Anderson gets INT #2 Nissen rushes for 1 of 2 scores Friday

CRAZY MASCOT OF THE WEEK There’s some pretty crazy mascots out there, here’s your weekly dose of a U.S. high school with an out of the ordinary nick name. Poca, West Virginia is the home of Poca High School, & their mascot? A Poca Dot of course. The high school has a total enrollment of 503 students and school colors that are red, grey and white. They have held their nick name since 1928, when a Charleston sportswriter gave it to them and it has stuck ever since. ESPN recently featured them for having such a unique nick name. Poca booster’s report that their best selling shirts are scripted “How bout them Poca Dots”. One question I have—why the teeth?

JV FOOTBALL PICKS UP ANOTHER WIN

NE Hamilton had no answers for the likes of Jesse Robertson, Andrew Lorimer, Trevor Hulett & Brandon Noggle last Friday. The Oriole JV team was all over the Trojans both offensively & defensively. Sam Scriver & Kolton Markley took turns running an offense filled with high lights provided by Tyler McDowell, Mikkel Jensen & Greg Pauly as the O’s kicked off a football double-header with a win

last Friday. You can catch the guys again this week as they host the Dunkerton Raiders at 5pm. It will be their last appearance on Allison Field this season. Come early, come loud & be on your toes. You don’t want to miss a single play. They are quick, they are crafty & they are all emerging stars for the Oriole program. Get an early start to your weekend by catching a ball game on a crisp Friday evening… the last home football event of the year.

This kid is still seeing #94, Robertson had sack after sack last Friday

The Oriole “D” gave a tireless effort Friday, never letting up against the Trojans

MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL FINISHES 2-4 The Oriole Middle School team fell to Midland Tuesday, 22-18 and ended their season with a blocked punt by 8th grader Andy Hagensick as time expired. Andy was a shoe lace away from breaking a tackle that would have won the game had he scored. Great effort and great season guys.
