    Defensive Line (7), Returning Starters (2), Coach MarkCarrier:Lost Pro Bowl NT Kris Jenkins in the season opener, buthas still held opposing rushing attacks to 3.3 yards percarry, which is good for second-best in the NFL. This

    group is led by two-time Pro Bowl defensive end ShaunEllis, whose 71.5 career sacks as a Jet ranks third all-time in team history. On the season, Ellis has recorded ateam-leading 3.5 sacks, 16 tackles and one forced fum-ble. Mike DeVito has earned four starts following the lossof Jenkins and leads all Jets defensive linemen with 24tackles. Sione Pouha has started all eight games (sevenat NT and one at DT), moving over the center to replacethe injured Jenkins and has recorded 23 tackles and hasrecovered two fumbles and one sack. Versatile defen-sive lineman Vernon Gholston earns snaps on the lineand at linebacker, started the Week Nine victory at DET(11/7) and has seen action in all eight of the Jets gamesthis season.     RB LaDAINIAN TOMLINSON

    In five career games against the Browns, four of which havetaken place in Cleveland, Tomlinson has collected 649 yards

    rushing on 109 carries (6.0 average) with eight touch-downs. He has scored a touchdown in all five games hesplayed against the Browns, scoring multiple touchdowns intwo contests (two at CLV on 12/19/04 and three vs. CLVon 11/5/06). The 6.0 yard per carry average is the highestamong active players against the Browns.

    His best game came in 2003 when he carried the ball 26times for 200 yards (7.7 avg.) and scored on a 70-yardtouchdown run.

    WR JERRICHO COTCHERY

    Cotchery has faced the Browns three times in his career col-

    WR SANTONIO HOLMES

    Holmes, a former division rival of the Browns after spendinghis first four seasons with PIT, has faced Cleveland more than

    any other Jet offensive player. In eight career games, Holmeshas caught 34 passes for 586 yards (17.2 avg.) and twotouchdowns. He scored on a 20-yard pass in his first gameagainst the Browns, the first touchdown of his NFL careerand again the following season on a 40-yard pass.

    The Jets lost to the Cleveland Browns, 24-18, after a comeback bid fell short in the final three minutes of the game. The rally included four onside kicks(one was a re-kick due to offsetting penalties) by Jets K Mike Nugent, 12 points and 93 passing yards. Jets S Kerry Rhodes recorded the first take awayof the game when he intercepted QB Derek Andersons pass intended for TE Kellen Winslow and returned it to the Browns 12-yard line. It marked Rhodesfourth consecutive game with an interception. After advancing to the one-yard line Browns S Sean Jones intercepted a pass intended for Jerricho Cotchery

    The Browns opened the scoring on a seven-yard play action pass from Anderson to RB Jamal Lewis. On the drive, the Browns converted on fourth-and-fouwith a 14-yard completion from Anderson to WR Braylon Edwards. The drive covered 80 yards on 10 plays and consumed 4:54. The Jets responded witha seven-play, 53 yard, 1:15 drive that was capped by a 35-yard field goal by K Mike Nugent, Nugents 11th consecutive field goal. On the drive Clemenscompleted five-of-seven passes for 65 yards, connecting with four different receivers. The Browns opened the second half with a five-play, 61-yard drivthat was aided by a 45-yard reception by Edwards and capped by a one-handed four-yard touchdown catch by Edwards. With 5:27 remaining in thgame, Clemens began to rally the Jets. The drive opened with an 11-yard run by RB Thomas Jones and a 15-yard completion to TE Chris Baker. AfteBrowns LB Leon Williams was flagged for pass interference on third-and-16 to move the Jets to the Browns 40-yard line, Jones took his next handoff ouof the shotgun formation and scampered 13 yards. Working in the no huddle offense the Jets executed two plays before; Jones got the ball to the Brownsone-yard line on a 17-yard rush. Before the Browns could get set, Clemens rushed the Jets to the line and scored on a one-yard quarterback sneak, his firscareer rushing touchdown. After a failed two-point conversion, the Jets trailed 17-12. With 2:59 remaining, Nugent kicked the first of four onside kicksWR Brad Smith wrestled the ball from the Browns and LB Brad Kassell recovered it at the Jets 43. Nugent connected on a 38-yard field goal to narrow themargin to 17-15 with 1:43 remaining. After Nugents second onside kick failed, Browns RB Jamal Lewis ran three times for 37 yards, including a 31-yardTD run that increased the Browns lead to 24-15. The Jets continued to keep the outcome in doubt with a 43-yard, 50-second drive that was capped by a35-yard Nugent field goal, that reduced the margin to 24-18. After offsetting penalties nullified Nugents third onside kick, the Browns recovered his lasonside kick to secure the victory.
