Cimarron Centurion, Gladys VanBuskirk

Ms. Gladys VanBuskirk also has some sad memo-ries in her life. She lost her mother early to tuberculo-sis.She lost her husband and father in the same year and had an appen-dectomy surgury. The next year a son and her sister died. She also has suffered a broken hip, ribs and a collarbone in her life. The lack of healthcare short-ened the lives of many of her loved ones. Gladys of-fered these tips to help us get through tough times:

*Try to keep positive when things are negative.

*If You can’t say something good about someone, don’t say anything at all.

*Yesterday is history, to-morrow is a mystery, and today is a gift. That is why it’s called the present.

After a crop failure in 1962 Gladys got a job in OKC developing and delivering film. She did this for over a year. She stayed with her sister until she found a job, then rented a sleeping room as Harry continued to work on the farm.

Gladys said,”Sometimes things happen that you don’t plan for. The ability to learn and the courage to find a new job is part of surviving. My secret to long life and my advice is to persevere in your endeavors, keep a positive attitude and work hard to earn what you have. We need to be kinder to each other and listen to what peo-ple say”.

Back Yard Digger Machine

New back yard digger machine looks like a lunar landing craft. With its lighter weight and tracks instead of tires, and outriggers, it can be used to set up to a 45’ pole in a back yard.

Sr. V.P. of Operations and Engineering,Reed Emerson described the new back yard pole set-ting machine. The tracks will narrow to 35” to get into 36” gates. It can dig the hole with its auger, can lift and set the pole. It has clamps to grab the pole, it also has a hot arm extension and a buck-et so we can change out poles hot. It has a 50 horsepower gas engine to run the hydraulics of this fine machine. Reed said, “When we had all

the contractors working here, we could find one that had one of these machines. Now things have slowed down, we needed our own to do this work. Some residents and housing additions have poles that our big trucks just couldn’t get to.

(Left pic)A rear pic of the dig-ger ma-chine on the trailer. Note the auger and the tracks. The op-erator stands on the back.

The front of the digger machine show the pole clamps, bucket, hot arm and outrigger boards.
