Upgrading Power 6 system microcode P520/550 to EL350_039 P570 to EM350_038 Login to the lpars on the managed system and check the current system firmware level. # lsmcode -c The current permanent system firmware image is EL340_101 The current temporary system firmware image is EL340_101 The system is currently booted from the temporary firmware image. If the level is below EL350 or EM350 (On P570) then this will be a DISRUPTIVE upgrade. All lpars must be shutdown and not activated during the firmware upgrade. Shutdown all lpars: # shutdown –F Wait for: ....Halt completed....

P570 to EM350_038

Login to the lpars on the managed system and check the current system firmware level.

# lsmcode -cThe current permanent system firmware image is EL340_101The current temporary system firmware image is EL340_101The system is currently booted from the temporary firmware image.

If the level is below EL350 or EM350 (On P570) then this will be a DISRUPTIVE upgrade. All lpars must be shutdown and not activated during the firmware upgrade.

Shutdown all lpars:# shutdown –FWait for: ....Halt completed....

Open a browser to the appropriate HMC

Check the Managed System to make sure all lpars show “Not Activated”

Select “Updates” in left pane and select appropriate Server. Select “Change Licensed Internal Code for current release” in Tasks (lower pane)

Select “Start Change Licensed Internal Code wizard” and click OK

Select OK at the Information window

Select “Removable Media”and click OK

Click OK

Click next

Click “Run Release…”

Select OK

Select “Removable Media” and press OK

Select the EC Name (01EL350) and press OK

Select “Power off automatically” and press OK

Select Accept to continue

This is the final warning. ALL LPARS MUST BE “NOT ACTIVATED”Press OK

Press OK

Progress window will appear

When complete the Managed System (Server) will power on automatically to Standby. You will then be ready to activate the lpar(s)

After the lpars are up:

Run lsmcode –c on one of the running lpars. You should see that the firmware has been updated
