Teaching Tips: 100 Pumpkin

You are able to print and photocopy these pages for your

non-commercial classroom and home use.

Learning to work with numbers requires a good deal of repetition – playing games is a good way to

make this repetition fun and motivating!

This game will be very effective for small groups of students to play after they have been introduced to

the hundred chart and counting to one hundred.

Before students play the game, introduce the worksheet and equipment to the students and look at them

together. Help them to become familiar with the format and rules of the game.

Try to make learning experiences and game playing as fun as possible. The aim of the game is not to

demand or test the students’ knowledge, but rather to encourage and assist them in playing the game.

To prepare:

1. Choose from the blank or filled hundred chart pumpkin.

2. Copy the hundred chart puzzle page onto different colored

papers, so each puzzle has a different shade.

Cut into random sections to create the puzzle pieces.

Game Instructions: 100 Pumpkin

100 Pumpkin Game Mat - per player

100 chart puzzle piece set - per player

Purpose

Students will arrange number sequences onto a hundred chart.

How to play:

This game may be for a small group of players or an individual student.

Players take a game mat and a set of puzzle pieces. They then work to arrange all

the pieces onto the hundred chart into the correct order.

Students may like to swap boards and try a new puzzle upon completion.

After several pumpkins have been arranged, students can fill out the hundred chart

worksheet.
