The Donations we Make

Why do we, MBAA, support other non-profits here in Morro Bay, you may ask. The answer is twofold. First, it’s because we live here and enjoy the services of many of these nonprofits. Many of our members use the library. We all enjoy the beautiful projects done by Morro Bay in Bloom. And anybody who walks on the Embarcadero ap-preciates the fact that there are mutt mitts around so you don’t step in dog doo doo every time you go for a walk. The second reason we do it is to get our name out there. We have had multiple people join Morro Bay Active Adults/The Morro Bay Senior Citizens Center because they have seen or heard that we have supported certain projects and they want to be part of it. In other words, we support these programs because it is a win-win situation.

JEWELRY SALE UPDATE

Since the Morro Bay Merchant Faire scheduled for the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend has been canceled, our jewelry sale fundraiser will be held during the Morro Bay City Wide Yard sale… early April 2018.

A big THANK YOU to those folks who have already made generous contributions. It is exciting to see the accumula-tion of wonderful pieces of jewelry and we will have a broad selection of pieces to sell in the Spring. Meanwhile, please continue to drop off donated jewelry at the Senior/Active Adults Center Office during normal operating hours. Wilshire Good Neighbor Program

A volunteer program in SLO County matches volun-teer drivers with seniors and disabled community members in need of transportation to appoint-ments. Passengers can be anyone 18+ who is disa-bled or a senior. The only requirement is that pas-sengers be able to transfer in and out of their own wheelchairs independently, if applicable.

Rides may be scheduled through Wilshire Commu-nity Services by calling (805) 547-7025.

RESOURCES

With a 2-day reservation, those age 60 years or more may enjoy a hot lunch and fellowship at the Sunshine Café located in the Multi Purpose Room of the Morro Bay Active Adult Center… 55+

The Sunshine Café is open weekdays, with lunch served at 11:30 a.m. Call (805) 772-4422 to make a reservation or for more details. A donation of $2.75 per meal is appre-ciated.

After training, volunteers process memberships, loans of wheel-chairs, walkers and similar aids, handle activity/event signups, direct seniors to our sources of help for tax preparation, legal matters, medical screening, senior nutrition, transportation and housing.

Khay Svedas (in sweater facing camera) recently participated in the Santa Maria MahJongg Tournament. Khay is on our 2017 Nominating Committee, and is our MahJongg group leader. Khay gladly helps MBAA mem-bers learn this challenging and fun game. The MBAA group meets from 1 - 4 on Fridays in our lounge.
