of the oldest and most charming cities in Ontario. Brockville, known as the "City of the 1000 Islands” attracts visitors from around the world looking to spend some time in the world famous 1000 Islands and on the mighty St. Lawrence River. shipping route where gigantic cargo vessels weave their way through the Brockville Islands. Do some shopping in one or all of our fabulous boutiques, antique shops or art galleries along King Street. Brockville offers several excellent dining options in the community including several choices in the downtown.

The 1000 Islands constitute an archipelago of 1,864 islands that straddles the
Canada-U.S. border in the St. Lawrence River as it emerges from the northeast corner of Lake Ontario. They stretch for about 80 km downstream from Kingston, Ontario. The 1,864 islands range in size from over 100 km2 to smaller islands occupied by a single residence, or uninhabited outcroppings of rocks that are only home to migratory waterfowl. The region was a part of the War of 1812 between the British Empire and the United States. Many sites from the war still can be found such as Fort Wellington in Prescott and the Garrison on Chimney Island, Mallorytown along the 1000 Islands Parkway.
Some masonry "castles" remain as international landmarks. The most famous extant examples are "The Towers" on Dark Island, now called Singer Castle, and Boldt Castle on Heart Island.

GREAT SUMMER, FALL
& WINTER EVENTS TOO!
Have you ever imagined what it would be like to live in a real fort? At Fort
Wellington in Prescott Ontario, you can explore the buildings, put on a costume, and maybe even hear the roar of the cannons.
The fort was built during the War of 1812 to defend the St. Lawrence River shipping route from possible attack by the United States. It was called into service again in 1838 when invasion from the United States was once again imminent. By the 1840s, it was a real family fort – the soldiers’ wives and children actually lived with them in the barracks! Today, visitors can explore the original historic site and interact with guides in period costume. Children can go on an adventure and become Parks Canada Xplorers to discover this unique fort. The site also boasts a new visitor centre featuring the wreck of an 1812-era gunboat.

Brockville and the 1000 Islands region has gained critical acclaim as being the
"World's Best Fresh Water Scuba Diving" destination. Often referred to as the Caribbean of the north, the water here is fresh and clear. No need to rinse tanks off after diving here. Part of the attraction to this site is the water clarity and that there is no thermocline. This unique and rewarding diving experience offers exploration of century old shipwrecks and artefacts that are scattered along the river bottom. Shipwrecks close by include the H.P. Bigelow, Lillie Parsons, John B. King, Robert Gaskin, Muscallonge, Fleur Marie and the Rothesay.

It may be a vista so powerful and majestic that it will literally take your breath away. Or, it may be a place that will simply cause you to take pause in order to soak it all in, a place where you can draw on a deep well of energy emanating from the serene beauty of the view. An amazing place can be different things to different people: mystical, magical, bizarre, breath-taking and awe-inspiring, or even a combination of all of these things… It certainly can tell a story.

Mac Johnson Wildlife AreaRéserve d'espèces sauvages Mac JohnsonLooking for a quiet place to enjoy nature?
Mac Johnson Wildlife Area is located at the north end of Brockville. It’s close enough to be just minutes from downtown, but far enough from the city lights that you feel like you’re getting away from it all.
The wetland areas that make up a big part of the property provide a great place to bird watch. The reservoir is a wonderful place to bring your canoe or kayak. Two docks and access points are available for launching your canoe.
There are 11 km of hiking and cross-country ski trails that cross woodland, wetland and ield areas and provide views of the reservoir. During the winter, when snow conditions permit, the trails are groomed for cross-country skiing. Skating is another popular winter activity at Mac Johnson Wildlife Area. There is a nearby irepit and a skating shelter.

Brockville and the 1000 Islands region offer golfers a variety of courses that
range in dificulty and design.
The Brockville Highland Golf Club at irst glance is a course with open fairways until you approach the irst tee and realize the challenge ahead with the tall trees.
The Brockville Country Club turned 100 in 2014 and in 2015 will surely demonstrate its history. The Club becomes the second home to many offering a premier Stanley Thompson golf course, a six-sheet curling rink, ine dining; plus meeting, banquet and social activities to the community year-round.
