Holiday Float 2019 Honoring Veterans + Scanlon’s

The Beverly Rotary Club will be on a float in the Beverly Holiday Parade this year on December 1st. We will be honoring our military as well as celebrating the holidays. We will have MILITARY ELVES collecting toys that the crowd donates to contribute to “Kennedy Kares” for TOYS FOR TOTS. Toys will be put into our “sleigh” as we walk the parade route. Won’t you help those less fortunate by donating toys to us? Someone will be smiling because of you!Spread the word, it only works if people know its happening. Big Game = Big BetsFor the 121st meeting of Beverly and Salem football game Rotary Presidents get all cocky with braggadoccia. Salem President Mike McLaughlin said in the unlikely event of a Bev-erly win he would provide free Uber rides for Beverly Rotar-ians while dressed as the mascot Panther. In addition will offer up his prize winning smile as a parting gift. Dave Olson, Bev-erly President not to be outdone said if Salem wins he would dress as a Witch, deliver an editorial column on the dangers of sports betting and paper cuts. No smile as parting gifts.Both Mayors Kim Driscoll and Mike Cahill’s spokespeople said they were unavailable for comment as they think any wagering should be left to the professionals in social clubs throughout both cities.

Speaker:Suzanne Graves is a Senior Physi-cian at Garden City Pediatrics in Beverly. She is the President of the Evelyn Lilly Luts Foundation, whose mission is to encourage and sup-port educational, healthcare and research initiatives and continu-ing education. As President she has worked to get an anti-vaping campaign started with the goal to prevent starting and to stop at risk youth from vaping. Here are some interesting facts she shared:Glycerin is the main ingredient in many vape products. When heated it is the same stuff used for embalm-ing and for formaldehyde. Flavored vapes contain diace-tyl, which obliterates airways. They often contain heavy metals. 75% of people dying from the recent vaping epidemic are people who used vapes containing THC. 30% of MA highschool students have used vape products regularly. Last week’s speaker Dr Suzanne Grave’s gave a n enlightening talk on vap-ing dangers, especially for youth. The list of carcinogens in Vaping was with-ering and made you want to turn to a more regulated stimulant like booze. Since it isn’t monitored by the FDA the chance for contaminated and bad product is high. Plus high school kids are mighty clever in how they vape dur-ing class to get through those 70 minute blocks. Please find out info and talk to teens about dangers.
