Photosynthesis Enzymes! Grab Bag
Photosynthesis – 100
Where does photosynthesis take place?
Chloroplast
Photosynthesis - 200
What process is unique only to plants?
Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis - 300
What are the outputs of photosynthesis?
O2 and C6H12O6 (sugar)
Photosynthesis - 400What is the sources of energy in
photosynthesis?
Sunlight
Photosynthesis - 500
What is the name of the organelle and where is it
located that a plant takes up carbon dioxide?
Stomata – underside of leaf
Enzymes! 100
A substance that is acted upon in a biochemical reaction
Substrate
Enzymes! - 200Usually a protein, helps catalyze
reactions.
Enzyme
Enzymes! - 300
Name one condition that would affect enzyme rate (how fast it works).
• Temperature
• Concentration of substrate
• Presence of catalyst (enzyme)
Enzymes! - 400What do enzymes do?
Catalyze (speed up) reactions. Breaking stuff up
or putting stuff together.
Enzymes! - 500
What is #3 pointing to?
Active Site
Cellular Respiration – 100
What are the inputs of cellular respiration?
O2 and C6H12O6 (sugar)
Cellular Respiration - 200
Where does cellular respiration occur in the
cells?
Mitochondria
Cellular Respiration - 300
What is energy in cellular respiration?
Adenosine TriPhosphate (ATP)
Cellular Respiration - 400
Why do plants perform cellular respiration?
Respiration converts a plant’s sugars into energy and releases the energy into the plant’s system. It is also responsible for
producing and releasing water and carbon dioxide. Without cellular respiration, the
plant would die.

Name this molecule:
ATP (left) or ADP (right)
Experimental Design - 100WHAT IS THE CONTROL? • Homer notices that his shower is covered in a strange
green slime.• His friend Barney tells him that coconut juice will get rid
of the green slime.• Homer decides to check this out by spraying half the
shower with coconut juice and the other half with water.• After three days of “treatment” there is no change in the
appearance of the green slime on either side of the shower.
Side of the shower sprayed with water.
Experimental Design - 200WHAT IS INDEPENDENT VARIABLE? • Homer notices that his shower is covered in a strange
green slime.• His friend Barney tells him that coconut juice will get rid
of the green slime.• Homer decides to check this out by spraying half the
shower with coconut juice and the other half with water.• After three days of “treatment” there is no change in the
appearance of the green slime on either side of the shower.
Amount of coconut juice sprayed on half of shower.
Experimental Design - 300WHAT IS THE RESULT/CONCLUSION? • Homer notices that his shower is covered in a strange
green slime.• His friend Barney tells him that coconut juice will get rid
of the green slime.• Homer decides to check this out by spraying half the
shower with coconut juice and the other half with water.• After three days of “treatment” there is no change in the
appearance of the green slime on either side of the shower.
Coconut Juice does not affect shower slime. Homer should
stop using it.
Experimental Design - 400
You want to see if you can affect how quickly amylase works on starch. Which is
the enzyme? Amylase
(helpful hint:enzymes typically end in –ase)
Experimental Design - 500
Untreated subjects used as test benchmark: in an experiment, the group of test subjects left untreated or unexposed to some procedure and then compared with treated subjects in order to validate the results of the test.
Control group

Name this organism: Pan troglodytes
Chimpanzee

Who wrote, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe?
C.S. Lewis (one of Mrs. Hagens’ favorite authors)
Grab Bag - 300
What do scientists study when they look at lake
sediment?
Pollen (what kinds of plants lived in the past)
Grab Bag - 400
Name this molecule:
Protein (Amino Acid)

What do leukemia sufferers have too many of?
White blood cells (or leukocytes)
