10 Things is an assignment designed to shift first-year students from the realm of left-brain centric judgement into a more balanced relationship between the hand, eye and intellect; to encourage them to work with materials experimentally and to stretch the bounds of their individual imagination, creativity and resoucefulness. For this assignment there are no “right” or “wrong” solutions, only imaginative or unispired ones. Students are encoraged to avoid expected solutions, not to edit the bizarre or unsual and to be adventurous. They can use any combination of materials or techniques as long as their materials are manipulated in some way working within the ten constraints.
