Formal proposal

I have decided the name of my magazine will be a one word title that is relevant to the genre of music dance and RnB. This way it will be relevant to the audience whilst being catchy and easy to remember. I also am thinking of using the word dance in another language e.g. in French would be “le Danse” which would basically summarizes the genre of the magazine whilst remaining individual and catchy.

I chose my genre to be Dance and Rnb this is because lots of my peers are interested in this style of music and therefore have background knowledge on the genre and I can easily access information about the general audience and styles used in this genre. Magazine such as Billboard have been an influence in the genre of my magazine and I can see what artists are in this genre from looking at various issues of this magazine.

My magazine is based around an R&B and dance genre of music the audience of this genre would be both girls and boys generally a younger audience of around 16-20, generally students. I have decided to use a female on the cover who will be of the same age group as the audience and will be more appealing to readers.

For my front cover, I am planning to use a medium shot of a female artist, of the same age group who is dressed to appear very sexualized and attractive. This image will reflect the audience as to make the female audience want to be like this artist and the male audiences want her. The image being sexualized is very typical for this genre of music in photographs taken of people such as Rihanna and Lady Gaga you can see this and artists like this represent the style I want on the cover of my magazine. The background of the cover will be a plain color probably white as to make sell lines and the main image stand out on the page. The font and colors used for the sell lines and title on the page will all be linked as to create a color scheme for the magazine.

For my contents page, the masthead will be large at the top of the page either saying “contents” or using the title of the magazine. Also I will keep the color and font scheme the same as the cover as to create a style for my magazine. The features of the magazine will be places along the side of the page categorizes as so the audience can easily find what they want to read. There will be 1 dominant image of the cover girl. Followed by 2 smaller images, to show other features in the magazine. I will also be adding an editor’s note to the readers making the magazine personalized towards its audience.

For the double page spread, I intent to do an interview with the artist used on the cover. I will be using a different shot of the girl for the double page spread so the audience can see the artist from different perspectives throughout the magazine. It will be based on the artist and how she has come so far the music industry and finding out her story. The idea of this interview will be to inspire the audience and reveal the true artist.
