5”x 7” High/Low LED Headlights: Model 8900This 12-24V combined high/ low headlight features the same cutting-edge design and rugged construction that all of our flagship LED headlightspossess. This DOT-approved light installs with theease of a sealed beam, but delivers performance that far-outperforms any traditional headlight!
EXPECT MORE THAN STANDARDS COMPLIANCEGiven the clear advantages of LEDs overother technologies, there will no doubt be anumber of manufacturers producing LEDheadlights in the months and years to come.
One thing you’ll want to keep in mind whenselecting an LED headlight is that justbecause a headlight is DOT-approved doesnot guarantee a good beam pattern for driving. It is one thing to place light at specificpoints in order to meet DOT standards, but itis considerably more difficult to design a lightthat meets the standard and has a goodbeam pattern.
In the photographs below, you’ll see the beampatterns of two different DOT-approved lowbeam headlights. The first is a competitor’s,and the second is J.W. Speaker’s model8800.
In comparing the two photos, notice how thecompetitor’s product (despite being DOTapproved) does a poor job of illuminating theforeground – impairing its effectiveness.Meeting DOT standards is certainly important, but you should also do an apples-to-applescomparison of the beam patterns to ensureyou’re getting the best possible LED head-lights for your money.
