10 QUICK FIXES FOR WINDOWS 10 PROBLEMS
SafeBytes Software
Although Windows 10 has been a great success, it is not without issues. This article highlights some of the simplest solutions that you can use to ensure that you maximize your user experience.
1 – DELAYED SOFTWARE UPGRADES
Unfortunately, those that have Windows 7 SP1 or 8.1 are stuck in a time-warp where they seem unable to get the upgrade they need. Make sure you check your “upgrade ready” notification because it could have been misdirected to the spam folder.
Go to the Windows update and check on the updates to make sure. Those with an eligible version can also burn the upgrade CD and automatically install it.
2 - ACTIVATION ISSUES
It could be a case of not being able to activate the download you have just acquired. This even happens to legitimate upgrades that have a wrong product key. You can continue using the package, but they will not allow you to personalize with things like desktop themes and colors. Call Microsoft if you still cannot activate after a few days.
3 – HARDWARE INCOMPATIBILITY
Sometimes, you get warnings about hardware that is potentially incompatible. Make sure that you do the right upgrades. For example, you could ask for updated drivers from the manufacturer. You could also download them from the relevant website.
4 – MISSING INBOX FOLDERS
The mail app could go wrong, such that you cannot see the inbox subfolders. Use your web browser to see the folder. Microsoft has promised to work on this issue in the near future
5 – UNPLAYABLE DVDS
If you can’t seem to play your DVDs, get an app from the internet which is specifically geared for that purpose. They are available at the Windows Store. Alternatively, you can use the ever ready VLC media player.
6 – ONGOING WINDOWS UPDATES
Windows has set up an automatic system which can be inconvenient. You can only delay them by changing the restart time, so that your work is not disrupted.
7 – BUGS THAT COME WITH UPDATES
Some updates come with unwanted system bugs. You can get round this by ensuring that you enable the System Protection. This can be found easily using the search box. It creates a Restore Point before each update.
8 – MISSING INTERNET EXPLORER BOOKMARKS
Those utilizing Windows 10 have Edge as the default browser. Therefore, you can import them by selecting the option to import favorites. This is found on the favorites tab which is within the Hub menu on Edge.
9 – FILES OPENING IN WRONG APPS
Right click on the file that is opening incorrectly and select the option to open with another app. On the drop down list, select the appropriate app. You should also tick the box to ensure that this app is always used for the file.
10 – WI-FI SENSE RISKS
Even though they insist that you can only share with friends, some people are not convinced. If you fall in that category, disable Wi-Fi Sense. Go to start, select settings and scroll down to the Network and Internet options. Click on the Wi-Fi settings and uncheck all the boxes for sharing
