WOLVES AGAINST BREAST CANCER

10 Mile run/ 5k walk run

WHY? Mission of Wolves Against Breast Cancer:Educate students about the TRUTHS of breast cancer, advocacy, and evidence-based research

Run/Walk for Breast CancerWill help raise money to support students

in their effort to lobby for the Department of Defense Research Grant for breast cancer, in Washington D.C. in May of this year

WHAT WE DO IN DC

WHEN AND WHERE? Event takes place April 17th Advance applications are due April 12th Check in begins at 7:30 am Races begin

9:00 am - 10 mile 9:30 am - 5k (3.1 mile)

Awards begin at 11:00 am Raffle prize drawing begins at 12:00

WHO CAN RACE IN THE 5K WALK/RUN ?

Western Oregon University students, faculty, or staff members

Family members of Western Oregon University student, faculty , or staff members

Any community members Anyone…any age (with parental consent if under 18)…any fitness level!

WHO CAN RACE IN THE 10 MILE RUN?

Western Oregon University students, faculty, or staff

Family members and friends of Western Oregon University students, faculty, or staff

Anyone who enjoys running long distances (need parental consent if under 18)

Anyone physically capable of competing in the full 10 mile run (must sign a release form)

Anyone training for another race or athletic event

ON-CAMPUS STUDENT BENEFITS

Students will not need travel assistance to attend

Students will have the opportunity to learn more about the NBCC health internship offered

On campus students will receive 2 raffle tickets, rather than only one

Students will learn about many local businesses and what they have to offer

First 25 on-campus students will receive a BPA free reusable water bottle

OVERALL BENEFITS

The first 100 race participants who return their registration form complete will receive a goody bag filled with information, coupons, samples

Every race participant will receive a free raffle ticket (on campus students will receive 2)

All run/walk participants will partake in physical activity promoting a healthy lifestyle

THE BEST PART All event participants will participate in a fun, outdoor activity promoting healthy life styles while contributing to the continuous efforts of eradicating breast cancer; a disease that needs to end because each week 51 Oregon women are diagnosed

HOW GENERAL ASSEMBLY CAN HELP

We would like to provide fresh fruit halves for the race participants (bananas and oranges)

Fruit will be purchased from Roth’s

Total fruit cost: $75

HOW GENERAL ASSEMBLY CAN HELP We need to purchase bottled beverages to be handed out to race participants throughout the course AND at the finish line

Six cases of water (Costco) $60 Four cases of sports drink (Costco) $60

Gift card raffle prizes from Costco $50 x 2 = $100

Total Costco Price: $220

HOW GENERAL ASSEMBLY CAN HELP

We would also like to purchase some fun outdoor raffle prizes from Fred Myer Grand raffle prize: Bike package

(including bike, helmet, and lock)Bike package total: $300

We would also like to have smaller outdoor prizes, like Frisbees, badminton sets, basket balls, soccer balls, etc. Prize total: $ 200
