4) Rediscovering Worship
Last Sunday we concluded a four-part series. Here’s a summary of some of our main points of emphasis:
Worship is not entertainment. To be entertained you sit back and enjoy. To worship you sit up and participate. To worship in “spirit and truth” (Jn. 4:24) means “giving God what he de-serves and what he demands.”
God alone deserves our worship (Matt. 4:10, Rev. 4:10-11, 22:8-9).
In worship I need to see God as Isaiah did (Isa. 6:1-7). When I have the discipline to do this I’ll be humbled and seek God’s forgiveness. In worship, when I’m really focused on God, the little things that may distract me will no longer matter.
Worship isn’t always about how it makes me feel. When God told Abraham to offer Isaac, he did what God said despite how bad it must have made him feel. Abraham loved God more than he loved his feelings for Isaac.
Abraham had faith that God would bless his faithfulness (Heb. 11:17-19). Worship, according to God’s will, may not always please man, but it will always please God and he will bless our faithfulness.
The assembly is part of God’s plan for first century Christianity. One can’t really worship in spirit and truth if he neglects the assembly.
The assembly is not just about the individual worshiper. My presence or absence speaks loudly to others in the assembly. It is an encouragement or discouragement to someone (Heb. 10:24-25).
(A final note as suggested by a Care Group leader: Members, please be diligent to fill out a white attendance card each week. This will help our group leaders do their job.)

Doors of the Bible – The Door of the Human Heart
So far we have talked about the door of revelation (the Bible), and the door of opportunity and in our pre-sent lesson we will be speaking of the door of the hu-man heart. To the church at Laodicea our Lord wrote, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me” (Rev. 3:20). Here we see the appeal of the One who loves the souls of all men. Throughout His ministry Christ was inviting men to come to Him. In His Galilean ministry after choosing twelve of His disciples to be His apostles, Jesus left to preach in their cities. Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Mt. 11:28). On another occasion while teaching in the temple during the Feast of Taber-nacles, John tells us, “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink” (John 7:37). Now after His public ministry is finished and Je-sus has ascended back to heaven He is still offering His invitation to men to “open” the door of their heart and allow Him into their lives. The offer of Christ is that if we will open the door He will come in and dine with us. The word translated here as “dine” is in the Greek deipneo. According to W.E. Vine this is the word used of “the chief meal of the day.” William Barclay said that the Greeks had three meals in the day, breakfast “was not more than a piece of dried bread dipped in wine” and that the noon meal “was sim-ply a picnic snack eaten by the side of the pavement, or in some colonnade, or in the city square, a meal eaten in passing.” But the evening meal was the main meal of the day where people “lingered and sat long and talked over it, for the day’s work was done.” It is our responsibility to open that door. Christ will not force His way into our lives. In conversation with two disciples on the road to Emmaus when they drew near to the village where they were going, Jesus “indicated that He would have gone farther. 29 But they constrained Him, saying, "Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent." And He went in to stay with them” (Luke 24:28b, 29). Jesus would not force Himself upon their fellowship and that is why He indicated that he would go onward until they constrained Him. Likewise Christ will not force Himself into the life of any man. We must open the door to Him. Holman Hunt’s painting “The Light of the World” depicts Jesus knocking on the door. The door had no handle on the outside. Years later Hunt felt he had to explain the symbolism. That door can only be opened from the in-side. It requires our action to open to Christ. Christ con-tinues to plead and He continues to offer to come in but all of his pleading and offering is all to no avail if we do not answer to allow Him in.

Thank You My deepest heartfelt thanks to all my brothers and sisters for the many prayers and cards. To the Elders for their love, support, cards, and
prayers. For their visits to continue to keep me and Margie uplifted. To brother’s Jason & Tim for their visits and prayers and encouragement. The solid wall of cards when I got home was truly awesome. My recovery is on track and progressing as it should according to my doc-tors. I appreciate your continued prayers
for myself and Margie. Yours in Christ, Alan England
Thank You A year ago I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Since then I have had 3 surgeries, numerous tests and procedures. During this time good news was
followed by bad news. The one constant thing that I could count on was prayers from the congregation at Roebuck. A special thanks to all who came for the surgeries, provided food, and those who gave me personal encouragement. As of today, the
measure of my cancer level is very low. I am sincerely thankful to God and this group of Christians at Roebuck Parkway. Kenny Rachal
